Hi I’m Ginny and a new server means new #introduction post!
I spent the first decades of my life as a generic white boy in tech. A few months ago I signed up for my first fedi account and quickly discovered I was a girl! What!!
If you like quirky, confused girl memes and posts about the inscrutable behavior of cis folks ~ you should probably follow me.
I also post about all the stereotypical girl stuff: videogames, linux distros (fedora ofc), transgender stuff, programming, reading, writing, being actually autistic, and shoes. I like shoes a lot.
While I haven’t done anything shareable recently, I write fiction and also the occasional trans101 post for cis folks. “You seem to be running your own custom build of crazy, maybe you should write about that” ~ a former writing instructor
I’ve made a lot of friends on fedi and want to keep making more! If you ever want to chat, need shoe advice/pictures, or just need some one to listen <3. My contact stuff is on my profile :). I’m kinda shy and don’t always know what to say but I continue to try :P
I’m a single trans parent of an 8 year old girl (the source of my most popular post ever), and continue to work as a software engineer in the Seattle area. More deets on my pronouns.cc page or personal website: fr.wtf
Made these "mag boot" lights inspired by #TheExpanse to keep me visible when walking around traffic. Could also work for when on a bicycle/motorcycle/scooter. What do you think?
WARNING: Do NOT buy shoes from IMAURRKS. I ordered 3 pairs of shoes, it took 4 weeks to get them, they're at least 2 sizes too small, they made 0 offers to replace them, and only offered a 40% refund.
What makes these shoes gay? Isn't a gaberdine a type of robe? What makes brown, brown and black summer colors? So many questions, so few answers. #vintageAd#gay#shoes
Crocs used to just be beloved of gardeners and dads with plantar fasciitis. But over the past few years it's also been collaborating with some interesting brands and individuals, including 7-Eleven, Lil Nas X, Balenciaga, and KFC (the last of which had Croc charms that smelled like chicken drumsticks). The latest hookup is with Pringles for a collection that comprises Classic Clogs, Slides, and an ankle-high boot with a holster to store a pack of Croc-Tail Party-flavored Pringles (watermelon, chilli and lime). Here's more from Allrecipes. What's your opinion?
Made these "mag boot" lights (red version with arrow pattern) inspired by #TheExpanse to keep me visible when walking around traffic. Could also work for when on a bicycle/motorcycle/scooter. What do you think?
9.37 miles easy run @ #SVT, also testing another pair of #shoes: ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25. Result is not good: the lateral side of my right foot hurts after the run (not during)! I blame it on the high stack of cushioning: my theory is my natural reflex to counterbalance the unevenness of the trail surface is interfered/distorted by the cushioning. Does that sound plausible?
I made an orange version of my "mag boot" lights inspired by #TheExpanse for visibility when walking around traffic. Might also be useful when on a bike. Thoughts?
Walking in style in a library in 1654. The shoes he's wearing while transporting 4 big books in Wolfenbüttel's Herzog August Bibliothek were trending in mid-seventeenth century Europe.
My favorite #boots: jika tabi popular with construction workers in #Japan that I modified with tanker boot straps and rechargeable LED lights on the heels. Keeps me visible walking or biking around traffic.
My dear #running / #trailrunning friends: I need to ask for advise on picking #shoes for #marathon runs on paved roads and mildly unpaved trails (photo 1):
ASICS Trabuco Max 2 (photo 2): the middle in weight (~290g), not waterproof. Bouncy w/ rocker design.
Salomon Speedcross 5 (photo 3): the heaviest (~295g), waterproof(?). Big lugs.
“You don’t want to consider your shoe something you’re going to throw away, and that’s a long-term change. It’s a mental model that needs to change for us to keep building all the products of the future”
“Products should really be made the same way plants grow: Build it so it’s regenerative, it’s circular”
“estimated that of the 23.5 billion pairs of #shoes that are produced each year throughout the world, 95% of them will end their life as landfill waste. This equates to around 20 million tons of waste every year
The footwear industry has yet to come up with an adequate solution to this problem”
