Reading this is nuts. Google changed its algorithm and websites are on the brink of death. This is what gatekeeping is doing.
Hate to see it, as Retro Dodo is one of my favorite websites. I read their articles almost every day. I got their book and backed/preordered the upcoming two which might never be released now.
If you are into Retrogaming or are interested in modern handhelds, consider bookmarking their website and supporting them.
@ichderfisch@eniko We used to joke about Yahoo vs Google. “There’s no way Yahoo will be able to maintain a curated tree of Internet sites when anybody can just search for stuff on Google,” we said, and at the time we were right.
But given today’s web, now I’m wondering if some sort of curated database of links, perhaps combined with a distributed “curator trust rank” system, is the way to go.
I'm wanting to reach out to #gaming fans who have personal challenges that make some - or many - games difficult to access for them.
Visual acuity issues. Hearing loss. Dyslexia, or missing limbs or anything else.
I'm planning an article on accessibility features in video games, and would love to hear stories from people for whom those features aren't merely a convenience, but necessary for them to be able to participate in the hobby.
@GuerillaGrue what kind of info are you looking for?
I have nerve damage in my hands, audio processing and hearing issues, and fibro brain fog. All of which make gaming an interesting experience.
I'm pretty passionate about accessibility in gaming so love to hear it's getting more attention
I'm not sure what to offer because my disability has made it so that I have had to give up most games.
I have a few issues, but the main problem when it comes to gaming is dystonia. I get cramps in my hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder from repetitive or rapid mouse clicking or button pressing, from having to heavily use a thumb stick, and similar motions. It's made worst by the fact that controllers keep getting bigger while my hands stay tiny. This has made it so that I can only play a very limited selection of games. I haven't found any solutions.
Game help, please. Dad is stuck in hospital in US & bored out of his mind. I’m in UK. Need a turn taking game (like words with friends, but he hates word games).
He loves traditional games like dominoes & cards, but would like something new. He’s very unwell, anything complicated will go in the bin. His vision is ok, but tiny text will be a problem. We both have an iPhone.
Suggestions?
Retoots with helpful hashtags very appreciated thank you, I don’t know what to type 🫠
@nixCraft i’ve gotten to the point where I just want to explore, find secrets, solve puzzles, and enjoy a story. Boss fights are a miserable experience that impede me from continuing to enjoy the parts that I like. I don’t want to grind and/or repeat fighting a boss over and over again.
@MichaelKlamerus@lori@shadsy I remember PYST showing up one day (someone in my family bought it, I don't remember who), that it was disappointingly bad, and that the box had a little shape on it that said "comes with this free sticker!" but it was just printed on it, it wasn't really a sticker.
@vga256@MichaelKlamerus I feel like $40 would be a lot of money for PYST... If I was a kid and I spent $40 on PYST and then took it home and played it I'd be mad.
@Alien_Sunset YEAH there are!! Finally got to look through them all. Some of the ones that stood out to me most are Magic Wand, Elephantasy: Flipside, Rebop Blasters, The Interval, Ghost Kart Racers, StarBoy, The Milk is Sour, Junk Mail Archaeology, Super Extra Team Dungeon Game, Smorgasbord Earth, The Blocks Shoot at You, Running Through a Crypto Mine, Handball for Plants, and Winglet.
You're trying to enjoy a nice evening of wargaming with your horse, then some guy in a fluffy-fronted shirt walks in, threatens you with a pencil and steals your whiskey.
