The big story should be that a Republican prosecutor didn’t find grounds to charge Biden and inserted gratuitous commentary that aligns with GOP talking-points during an election year in an attempt to influence the outcome. That should really be a huge scandal. #Election2024#biden#trump
That means that in the Iowa caucuses:
2.3% of the adults in Iowa voted for Trump.
3.8% of the registered voters in Iowa voted for Trump
9.6% of registered Republicans voters in Iowa voted for Trump
Over 90% of registered republican voters in Iowa chose not to show up and vote for Trump.
#Trump losing 17% of the vote in a closed swing-state primary to a candidate who dropped out months ago should lead to a lotta commentary about his weakness. It won’t, because the press is obsessed with Trumpers sticking with Trump regardless, but it should. #Election2024
The date of the general election seems designed to disenfranchise young people as much as possible, since most university students who vote do so at their term-time address. Universities are in recess on 4 July & many students will be at their parents’ or between university accommodation. Please make sure anyone you know in this situation registers at an appropriate address, preferably with a postal vote.
But in the body: "Much of the current crisis is rooted in factors Biden's team has had little control over — including unprecedented global calamities that have pushed millions of migrants to the U.S., decades of congressional inaction, and the state of key agencies after the #Trump administration."
The polling industry's probs get far more attention than sloppy reporting on and analysis of the polls.
The DMR says #Trump's support "dipped" by 3 in IA since their last poll, #Haley's taken 2nd , #DeSantis has "fallen" by 3, etc. But the poll has a MOE of +/- 3.7, so these aren't factual statements!
The incentive here is obvious. 'Everything looks pretty much the same as it did in out previous poll' doesn't make for an interesting horse race.
"States removed more than 19 million people—or about 8.5% of the registered U.S. electorate—from voter rolls between the 2020 and 2022 electoral cycles, often via flawed practices that prevent many eligible persons from exercising their right to vote"
Did you know that Indivisible, yes that Indivisible, is not only on Mastodon, but that they post regularly here? Mastodon is an important component of Indivisible's outreach and communications efforts.
With the 2024 election fast approaching, following @indivisibleteam is a good way to stay informed and get involved in defending democracy this year.
The ONLY thing that matters for the next ten months is preventing Donald Trump from being president again. After we do that, we can argue about everything else. #election2024#Biden#Trump#VoteBlue
We'd love to stop publishing these kinds of features, but the danger is too great.
@BrynnTannehill74 takes a deep dive into what a Trump 2.0 presidency will look like.
It’s not hyperbole to say the re-election of the former president—twice indicted, with 91 felony counts against him—will threaten the safety of the nation and the world. #election2024#GOP#Democracy#trump
Mitch McConnell and 177 other congressional Republicans just signed a brief asking the Supreme Court to keep Trump on the Colorado ballot.
There's a myth that McConnell doesn't like Trump. It's bullshit. McConnell would literally die for Trump if necessary. And so would almost every other elected Republican.
There is no such thing as a "moderate" or "non-insurrectionist" member of a revolutionary fascist party.
The maddening thing about 'let the people decide' is #Trump lost the popular vote by a 2.9 mil margin in '16 and then attempted a coup when he lost by 7 mil 4 yrs later. His party lost every year in between. The people have decided repeatedly and there's no guarantee we wouldn't have a repeat of '16. #magacoup#election2024

This post is for the Black and Brown people who post on Mastodon. Other people can read it but this thread is to open a dialogue with our community specifically. I was traveling in Chicago for most of this week and I had an opportunity to talk to quite a few working class folks during my stay. When traveling I usually try and take the temperature on what is happening in Black communities locally so politics comes up often. 1/5
We are fighting because this country deserves a leader who respects our democracy, not disloyal Republicans willing to harm our citizens, divide our country and tear it to pieces for a bit of power.
We found the nazis, they attacked the Capitol on #January6th. It will take our collective effort to save our nation from the enemy within.
Poll stories are easy to do. Lay out the numbers, find a poli-sci professor to comment on them, and you’re done. But when that’s the substance of a #news outlet’s #political coverage, who’s up and who’s down like it’s all a big wacky game, the impact of politicians’ decisions get reduced to their effect on the numbers.
@Athenae digs into how election-year media builds entire news cycles around a glut of polls that misinform us.
Supreme Court to decide whether to kick Trump off ballot (www.newsweek.com)
Castro v. Trump, a case challenging Trump's candidacy with the 14th Amendment, is expected to decided by the justices on or before October 9.
