With all the changes to the Mastodon interface lately, I wonder if my home server might consider bumping the word count to 1,000?
Now the word counter is being hidden by default when composing a post unless one keeps scrolling down to check it, I'm finding myself bumping up against the word limit more.
I know, I can and do thread but still one has to assemble one's thoughts in these short bite-size pieces that have to stand on their own as well. Almost no one boosts threads, just single posts.
new #mastodon ui at least on #mastodonsocial. I think I like it, the little yellow details to make missing Alt text and CWs draw attention seem good.
The rest of the changes seem minor but "clean". I had to search for the CW button but symbols only is usually for the best, can be a localization nightmare otherwise
mmmm.... I just boosted and un-boosted a post several times because I could not see the change from grey to purple on the boost icon. This change on the the interface is not helping.
Looks like mastodon.social is getting hit with another wave of spam bots. Best thing to do is report them and myself and @cliffwade will block them ASAP. @Gargron and crew usually get to them quick so just sit tight and keep reporting them.
People on mastodon.social, are you seeing the multicolumn ("advanced") interface by default, even if you didn't activate it?
Have had a couple of reports now of this happening, has mastodon.social made it the default by accident?
It used to be the default years ago, but since then the simpler single column interface was made the default. Multicolumn shouldn't be appearing by default.
If you'd like your (public) posts to appear in search results on Mastodon, remember that you need to opt-in. Edit Profile → Privacy and Reach → Include public posts in search results. 14K people have opted-in so far!
Is newsie.social blocking or limiting mastodon.social, or the other way around?
Again, all the news outlets I was following on newsie.social were unfollowed without any interaction or notification. This is really frustrating.
@jjanhone It depends. Mastodon.social is the largest instance of them all, if there's safety in numbers, then yes. In this case you mostly trust Eugen Rochko, the founder and developer of Mastodon, that's another good factor. But if he decides to defederate other instances or some other instances decide to defederate #MastodonSocial, that's preventing a million people from seeing each other's posts, so that's kinda bad. But generally yes, that is a "safe" place, if there is such a thing on the Internet.
@mastodonmigration I don't blame you for being uncertain. I'm certainly unsure myself. One thing I do know is that, if ads begin being pushed by #Threads into the #MastodonSocial timeline, I'm either immediately off to a no-Threads-allowed instance or possibly just completely done with microblogging.

@TheConversationUS
Please consider hosting your own #Mastodon instance. #NewsieSocial has been problematic to the point that users on #MastodonSocial have already had your accounts unfollowed at least twice in the past few months. I cannot even simply refollow your accounts right now, some sort of limitation your current instance is imposing on users on my instance. By the way, please accept my follow request. @TheConversationUK@theconversationau@TheConversationAfrica
