Heya! I'm in need of a new job. My current gig is contract based, which I don't see as a sustainable option going forward.
I'm a software developer based in Pennsylvania. I enjoy taking on complex problems and finding solutions to them, especially close to the hardware. I've been teaching myself to code for about nine years now, gaining experience in a myriad of technologies.
So, if anyone is in need of a developer with extensive experience in Rust, C/C++, CI/CD, or webdev, please reach out!
I can be reached via email at julia AT insertdomain DOT name.
Short PSA to #WebDev do not, do not, enable #Accessibility overlays! I was just on a website where the AccessiBe toolbar actually made text completely disappear and turn plain text paragraphs into a DIV, somehow, and a hidden element. I'm telling you, seek out an accessibility ready theme instead. #Wordpress has hundreds, and Shopify has them now too. You. Are. Wasting. Your. Money. On these toolbars. #Internet
Hmm, only 26 followers after being on Mastodon since November 2022? Ok, here is my intro again: (ex) Full stack web developer with Bread and Roses Creative, full time artist (now) and food critic (currently) with Chuck Eats KC. Kansas City-based web dev since the dawn of browsers (1995). Focus these days is one creative stuff: writing, food criticism, photography, streaming, art, and making fun videos.#Artists#Intros#Writers#FoodCritics#Fediverse#WebDev
It'll be announced at midday UTC today (10th Oct 2023).
If there isn't an update you can deploy quickly for your affected services immediately (there should be for the better known software, they've had advance notice) then you should consider disabling the affected element until there is.
Can't share more right now but it's important so don't forget (& tell your friends!).
Hey fam, my agency is looking to hire a full stack web developer fluent in css & js (including React), on a contract basis. Company located in the Pacific NW, remote work no prob, great culture, lots of potential work. DM me!!!
It's a reference for common system-provided fonts for certain styles of text so that you don't need to depend on heavy web font files for your sites but still get nice-looking faces on most systems.
Choose your desired style, copy the font-family line into your CSS, and then you're done!
I’m begging web developers to make search fields edit fields again instead of this popular combo box/drop down thing but you can still type into it. I just tried to look for a product on a website, and because the search field was not an edit box, the iPhone keyboard would not display so I just gave up and close the browser. That company just lost a customer. How did we get here? #WebDev#Internet
Do you want to add a "log in with your fediverse account" functionality to your site? I am working on a self-hosted node.js server that lets you do just that.
"If you can use a native HTML element or attribute with the semantics and behavior you require already built in, instead of re-purposing an element and adding an ARIA role, state or property to make it accessible, then do so."
It is 2023. XHTML is dead and buried. HTML is a "living standard" with billions of users. So what kind of idiot would want to build a website using XML? Me. I am that idiot. Last year, I launched a "web page" which didn't use HTML. Called, appropriately enough, "YOU DON'T NEED HTML!" That (ab)used […]
🔥Hot take:
It's not a "free trial" if I have to pick a plan & give my credit card & get billed the second the trial ends.
This is delayed billing. I'm paying with the effort it will take to remember to reassess at the end of the trial & manually cancel if I didn't like it. I'm paying by giving you my credit card info. I'm paying with reminder burden.
