The Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol is a new encryption standard defined by the IETF (RFC9420), to provide a way for users of a messaging service to communicate securely without servers being able to eavesdrop on their conversations.

Telegram has 700 million users and has always marketed itself as a "secure" and "private" messaging app, even though experts have repeatedly warned that Telegram is not as secure as end-to-end encrypted app Signal, for example.
To avoid leaking your IP address, you have to go to Telegram’s Settings > Privacy and Security > Calls, and then select "Never" in the Peer-to-Peer menu.

To find a majority for this unprecedented mass surveillance, the EU Council Presidency proposed Tuesday that the scanners would initially search for previously classified CSAM only, and even less reliable technology to classify unknown imagery or conversations would be reserved to a later stage. The proposed „deal“ will be discussed by ambassadors tomorrow and could be adopted by ministers next week.
