On this day one year ago we opened our #Mastodon instance, #VivaldiSocial. The first browser company to do so. 🎉
We believe a distributed, open standards, non-tracking #SocialNetwork is a better solution than the current popular social networks which build massive profiles on users and contribute to division and hate.
We’re happy to be part of the #Fediverse and are grateful that more than 40 000 people have chosen Vivaldi Social as their home. 🏠
The evolution of social networking: NPR visits a museum for self-described tech nerds, where they're preserving the machines that inspired inventors to create today's essential communication tech. "It's a Willy Wonka's factory of clattering gizmos, many invented by steam age eccentrics and tinkerers who managed to connect an entire world.” says writer Brian Mann.
Brazilian #museums join the #Fediverse:
"…a #socialnetwork instance dedicated to hosting museums and public #memory institutions…to preserve data from audience interactions as a digital collection for research purposes."
Idea: An app that uses your device location to update your current city on a public webpage with a map and an Activity Pub feed. Completely hands off way to keep friends and family update on your current travels, with the potential to grow into a federated network of nomads.

Create three lists: "CUR: All", "CUR: Flipboard", "CUR: Newsmast".
(CUR = CURated / CURation)
Search for "Flipboard" and "Newsmast" (Flipboard accounts share the same icon, Newsmast accounts share the same icon as well.)
Follow the accounts you're interested in. (It's by topic.)
Add each of those accounts to your "CUR: All" list. And to its respective platform list: "CUR: Flipboard" or "CUR: Newsmast".
Switch your "Home" view to "CUR: All", "CUR: Flipboard", or "CUR: Newsmast".
Another way of doing it is by topic:
CUR: Nature
CUR: Current Events
CUR: Programming
Or, by region:
CUR: Local
CUR: Asia-Pacific
CUR: Africa
Adjust it to your needs.
In the Mastodon family, you can set the list to not show up in your "Home" timeline. This way, you can still see the posts from other people you follow without it being filled with curated content boosts.
Benefits of following curation accounts:
You don't have to follow every single account.
> Usually, accounts share other topics which you probably are not interested in. Curated lists filter these topics for you.
You will discover content and people to follow.
> Both Flipboard and Newsmast boosts/reshares the original post. You see the original source/account and interact with them directly.
> You can then choose who you want to follow directly so you can see more of their content and interests, and build a friendly relationship with them.
It becomes possible to only follow 10 accounts ever, yet consume hundreds of content and information.
This way, you can avoid following hundreds of accounts which will only make your "Home" timeline confusing; and more likely, you'll miss what matters most for you because of so many posts from so many accounts.
I hope it helps you! Welcome to the Fediverse #SNS !
P.s. If you're using an awesome Fediverse software or platform besides Mastodon, the steps are similar, if not exactly the same.
Not every fediverse user want to connect to Bluesky but for those that do, you can look into using Friendica. The next release will allow you to use your Bluesky account from within Friendica. Interact with Mastodon / Msskey / Pixelfed etc and Bluesky users together on one platform
A message from an old media #TheEconomist to the new..

You've been given free access to this article from The Economist as a gift. You can open the link five times within seven days. After that it will expire.
This place isn't perfect. It has its problems, flaws, and limitations. It's not immune to hatred or those who spread negativity.
Yet, here I've encountered incredible people, a marvelous community committed to bringing constructive engagement, dialogue, and social interaction back to the network.
Thank you, Fediverse.
Thank you, friends of the Fediverse.
How is this very post licensed and how would you know? Do #Mastodon instances dictate a #license on users posts? Is there a way for me, the #author, to assign one and pass the information through the #fediverse? Do I give away my #copyright in the moment, I press on "Publish!" below? (Or press C-c C-c in #Emacs#mastodonEl?) Can I limit #distribution e.g. to notforprofit entities? (Not that I wanted to. At least not now.)
Since most users wouldn't understand what ActivityPub / Fediverse is, it is likely there will be far less than 40% or 30% (guesstimate) of their userbase who will appear in the Fediverse network.
It will highly depend on how they will explain the benefits of enabling ActivityPub in their accounts.
#socialmedia platforms are becoming conglomerates of hate day by day. The polarization of society is leading to a complete extinction of dialogue and constructive discussion.
