#Microsoft wants to take #screenshots of our #screen every few seconds now? 📸

This wonderful #AI "feature" for #Copilot+ #PC is called #Recall.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

@GossiTheDog #Windows and #Microsoft products are thus not suitable for use in #school. Our #education system should be free of #surveillance tech.

We should not be normalising this kind of dangerous #spyware by teaching kids that this is normal.

I believe many execs (& many of their enablers) are evil & diabolical, & they only care about their bottom line, esp. , , ...:

"Paul Graham wrote an essay in 2010 about how the best founders are naughty because they break the rules.

Then he has an interesting anecdote about Sam Altman...

Interesting lens through which to view why OpenAI keeps showing up in the news for doing obviously bad things."

Glad I switched, fully, to a few months ago. I'm not a programmer or techie, and struggled with Linux in the past, but compared to a decade ago, the installation was really easy & it the user interface has improved dramatically.

Heaven for domestic abuse: a new spywaretool just up for grabs. It's like having Pegasus at home. What could possibly go wrong? Microsoft knows most families share their accounts or at least can easily log into eachothers accounts. They just choose to ignore it.

@helma @SuperMoosie Things being "illegal" is not going to hold them back, since GDPR enforcement is weak and slow. It's a typical action, hoping to have it normalized before Authorities kick in. Then the data exploitation features that make money for Micro$oft will be launched.

Everyone is so up in arms about the 'recall' that's about to be baked into Windoze. Let me remind you that, during the pandemic, this thing was already widely rolled out in Teams and used by almost every company to spy on their remote employees, keystrokes, activity and all. All companies conveniently forgot to turn that off, until now. And no, I am not a tin-foil hat kinda guy, just a realist.

Beware of Products in . If you have a choice, don't buy them! The App refuses to populate the WiFi Network to pair new devices if you do not deactivate 'Private WiFi Address' (MAC randomisation), 'Limit IP Address Tracking' & activate 'Location Services' and give access to 'Precise Location' on iPhone. . They even published a blog article about it, recommending to deactivate these vital protections, instead of fixing the App. 🤦

When surveillance tech is marketed as jewelry:

"Tab is a small, circular pendant that hangs around your neck and listens to you and those around you."

"Rewind Pendant is a wearable that captures what you say and hear in the real world" (and makes it searchable with a "personalized AI")

"The Humane AI pin has indicated that the pin will have always-on listening capabilities."

Is this really the future most consumers want?

"With the lawsuit now moving forward, NSO is trying a different tactic: demanding repeatedly that Citizen Lab hand over every single document about its Pegasus investigation."

Worth noting that former NSO Group CEO behind this spyware is already back with a heavily VC funded surveillance company called "Dream Security" -

Big companies are churning out bullshit "security advice" on an industrial scale.

It's a marketing funnel that targets those seeking help.

And then misinforms them.

I wish it stopped there

The nonsense makes its way to victims of spyware, where misinformation can have life, death and liberty impacting consequences.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that this "unnamed...PR and lobbying firm" knows exactly who they are...

...and are no doubt experiencing an afternoon of the purest panic.

Using the offshore hack-for-hire ecosystem has been largely consequence-free for the middlemen & the ultimate beneficiaries of stolen information.

The tide may be turning & this latest arrest suggests that more consequences may be inbound.
