That’s often what #rustlang feels like. I started learning C in the late 80s and BASIC before that. Since then I’ve become an expert in several languages and proficient in several others. I’m an experienced #polyglot and though the rust compiler is by far the most helpful - and pushing other compilers to improve - there’s a lot of sharp edges in the grammar itself. Some other polyglots I’m getting into the language agree.
I'm at the #PolyglotGathering in Prague, for the first time since right before the pandemic (2019).
One highlight so far: "If you think Indonesian and Malay are easy, you haven't met the rest of the family" - Brian Loo, in his talk on comparative phonology and grammar of Austronesian languages. This also holds if your primary exposure to Austronesian languages was Polynesian (Hawai'ian, Māori, etc).
Unfortunately, I seem to be the only person trying to wear a mask in indoor spaces, even at an event with over 800 people. I haven't gotten any pushback on this, but the combination of mask + queer hair + bad at pretending to be neurotypical does occasionally draw looks.
Overall, the feel of the event is definitely different from when it was 200-some people jammed into a youth hostel in Berlin, but similar to the Bratislava years (I never got to the Polish instances).
Hi everyone! I'm Detha, a new member of Beige Party-goers with #AuDHD from #Indonesia, #TootSEA.
I'm currently in my late-20s and a #polyglot — I speak three languages fluently: #Indonesian, #Javanese, and #English. I've also been learning #Japanese, currently trying to memorise Hiragana and Katakana letters.
Other than that, I love reading #manga a lot. Currently I'm making it my mission to read older mangas from my childhood, like #DetectiveConan and #Hellsing. I like reading in general, just not "actual books" haha — my attention span can't handle it.
I guess that's what I can think of for my #introduction for now. I have a lot more scattered interests though, so you'll be seeing more of it on my account.
Thank you to @theropologist for accepting my request to join this instance, and nice to meet you all! Beige-bless :bb:
New #blog post! This time we're going through a #polyglot program I wrote initially as a joke, but turned out to be lots of fun. The same source file compiles in both #cpp and #python, with some cool preprocessor shenanigans to get it all working together.
A question for bilingual/polyglot people: Do you post both in English and in your other, native languages? How do you decide which one? I see my English posts get more reach, probaly because some people have filtered out other languages.
I find it easiest to post in the language whatever I feel like writing in. I don't give it much thought. How about you?

The Conformance section asks in the sense of interoperability to support the entirety of the protocol which is hard but what we do.
I have a few selected that I am learning (Polish for exampel), and follow a few people who post in utterly incomprehensible language too (looking at you Hungary 😆 ) and it's AWESOME!!
What better way to be reminded of the incredible privilege it is to be a native English speaker in this world!
To try and silence language in all it's beautiful forms is to try and silence humanity.
is #Perl suddenly now cool? With keywords like try catch finally defer and class and constructors in 5.36 and 5.38 you'd be forgiven for thinking it was 1995. Again. all good natured ribbing a side, you gotta hand it to the stalwart individuals, doggedly, persisting and keeping this great language alive. but last time I used it, it was recently updated to 5.8. have to brush off my Perl skills. #polyglot
I pushed a minor tweak to the #polyglot code explorer - now you can configure thicker coloured borders for top level directories to make nesting clearer. https://polyglot.korny.info (yes, very occasionally I find time for small bits of side code! Only 7 months since the last one...)
@maxim Hi everyone, I am a #backend developer for 20+ years. I code mostly in #perl, #nim, #python, #cpp and many more #polyglot. A bit of #rust. I am from Europe. Additionaly I am a #sysadmin for life. So if you need some help, my DM are open or ping me public. Have a nice one eyerybody!
I’ve been learning #German for about 7-8 months now and I continue to occasionally think in my second language (French) when trying to answer questions or form thoughts in German. It usually comes out as a mix of both languages.
I find it fascinating that my brain won’t try to answer these things in English, though.
👋 Hi, I am rokku, a 39+ old human in the #autistic and #adhd spectrum. As a person I behave as a #INTJ or #5w6. I don't use a #gender for me but I know there are a lot of them #agender#nonbinary. If you are talking to me, use no pronouns but my name.
I do #debian servers and #arch for my workstation. All other distros are bad, especially #ubuntu (yes i know its from debian but with ugly things in it)
My beloved languages are #perl, #raku and #nim. But I do much more of them like #cpp, #java, #python and what not. Currently, as an old grumpy human, I try to learn #nodejs (We hadn't this in the old days 😆)
I like #old#school things, how we did it in the past. I did not stay behind, but new things must proof themself.
I'm a former member of the pirate party germany (#Piratenpartei Deutschland). I was member of the Landesverband Bayern as a General Secretary and Treasurer. I am founder of the #Bezirksverband#Mittelfranken and also member of the board as a General Secretary.
I'm a #polyglot who will support all your language learning endeavours. I’m also happy to discuss anything language-based and will occasionally put out very unscientific polls on language use.
I'm also one of them there homosexualites, married to and exploring LGBT+ shenanigans with an irreplaceable Spaniard :blobfoxheartcute:
Expect a healthy mix of sincerity and shitposting, a good amount of goof, and (if you couldn’t tell already) a pathological use of the Blobfox emojis :blobfoxmeltmlem:
من یاد میگیرم بیپزم غذاهایی با تاثیرات از فرهنگ های دیگه مثل خاورمیانه تا سالم باشم
The standard American diet is generally terrible and I’m trying to pull in ideas from other cuisines to make healthier foods. I’m not the best cook. Suggestions of new foods to make always welcome! I do like the middle eastern tendency to make “salads” as chopped vegetables as opposed to some nasty lettuce and croutons. #Food#Polyglot#Persian
So #Introductions! I’m not a heavy poster, but lean mostly towards #SciCom and pictures of the #wildlife I spot in my backyard. It’s practically NatGeo up in this central #FL backyard.
