Denis Villeneuve's Arrival was released 7 years ago today.
I love this "close encounter".
"A linguist is recruited by the army to communicate with an extraterrestrial life-form after twelve mysterious spaceships land around the world." #scifi#arrival#movie#spaceship#alien#villeneuve
Whenever I see OpenAI's Sam Altman with his pseudo-innocent glance, he always reminds me of Carter Burke from Aliens (1986), who deceived the entire spaceship crew in favor of his corporation, with the aim of getting rich by weaponizing a newly discovered intelligent lifeform.
“So that’s where you look for aliens. In the course of an eclipse totality track. When everybody else is looking awestruck at the sky, you need to be looking round for anybody who looks weird or overdressed, or who isn’t coming out of their RV or their moored yacht with the heavily smoked glass.”
Where to look for #alien tourists – from Iain (M) Banks’s 2009 novel TRANSITION
Reminder: the USCSS Nostromo, which lands on LV-426, is a massive tug, and yet this ship is tiny compared to the huge refinery it pulls through space. #alien#scifi#horror#model#miniature#spaceship
I know it’s a 15 year old game but it’s new to me. It’s like discovering a classic movie or book for the first time. #Alien is one of my favorite movies so exploring a spaceship is 🤩
It’s visually stunning but the 2008 version still holds up. Its HUD-less UI must have felt revolutionary then. It still does.
Gosh, I’d love to see a fully ray traced version of this game.
