The fediverse won’t succeed at putting up a #Stackoverflow substitute and that’s a problem?
Just an impression: All the pieces seem to be there. But what’s required is a team, with devs, PMs and coordinators, dedicated to making a particular place in the #fediverse .
That’s resources and decently sized financial and organisational demands, especially to get a critical mass of users.
Is the fediverse up to that challenge? If not, is it an issue worth addressing?
These unofficial Mastodon accounts of space agencies are bots that merely share news items the agencies publish elsewhere, yet the accounts have quite a lot of followers:
If you're looking to host your very own single-user/a-few-users #fediverse instance, you cannot go wrong with #snac. It is simple to install on Ubuntu and works very well with some really solid clients. It is also written in C, so it is fast, with few dependencies. Great work @grunfink, you've got a new monthly supporter on Ko-fi!
»OpenAI darf Reddit-Daten nutzen:
Die beiden Unternehmen wollen eng zusammenarbeiten – und voneinander profitieren.«
Featured speaker this time was Euro Member of Parliament @kimvsparrentak who passionately spoke on the need for a more free Internet detached from #bigTech and more focussed on #Democracy and real #Social interaction.
When confronted with her presence on X and Insta, and the lack of active presence here on the #Fediverse we promised to help her.
Please help us get a decent follower-base here and follow her account right now, before she even gets a chance to get more active. A follower base of more than a 1000 people will surely help her convince her party members to spend time and money on a real presence here.
Weird #plumbing issue. In warm weather, our toilet and drains sound hollow, gurgles, etc, when flushing or draining, like when the tub is drained. In the cold months, it is fine. Last year we had the system snaked 100%. No clogs–been an issue since we bought house in 2019.
I am thinking the warm weather, wind, etc is causing negative air pressure through the main roof plumbing vent
The reason why we would love to see more accounts talk about composting on the #fediverse is simple.
You will be able to focus on your area and explain to local people what they can compost and where they can get their organic matter.
You can create a local community that will help your local area make a better place.
If we started this account it is for a main reason. Make people understand that by choosing to compost they can have a positive impact and do something about the #ClimateChange.
So creating a multitude of local accounts that will allow people to organize and make their area a better place is a very powerful thing to do for the #climate.
Important issue, and an interesting discussion has taken place since last year on the #Mastodon side of things. I imagine this issue is also present for #Misskey and most other #Fediverse services, and I wonder if a fix is already in the works or even rolled out for them?
The Stack Overflow rugpull is another data point in my head which discourages me from contributing any content to a hoard owned by a corporation.
I’m hoping that ActivityPub will one day enable SO-style knowledge bases in which the individual nuggets of content are owned by independent servers and cannot be purchased by anyone.
Adding a Fediverse Share Button to my Emacs Nikola Blog
Just to get extra meta, I published this blog post, then shared it to my #Fediverse account by clicking the "Fediverse Share Button" and writing these words you're reading right now.
Next I will grab the article ID of this toot, and rebuild and redeploy, so that when (if?) anyone replies to this toot, their replies will appear in the "Comments" section of my blog!
100% static site, written in Emacs, built and deployed using Nikola.
AFAICT, mastodon's decisions, which are arguably problematic (on which see: https://lemmy.ml/post/14973403) are literally trickling down to other platforms and infecting how they federate with each other as they dance around mastodon's quirks in different ways.
It seems like masto is ruining "the standard" with its gravity.
You know what's nice about here...knowing I can criticize and call out any corporation, politician, or wealth hoarder without being suppressed, hidden, etc at the whim of advertisers or megalomaniacs. #Fediverse
