Reminder for those looking for weather forecasts and info in the United States: https://www.weather.gov is the best source, you pay for it with your taxpayer dollars, and it's FREE! #wx#weather#forecasts
The record low #SeaIce situation around #Antarctica has taken a lot of the attention this year, but #Greenland also had a #StrangeIce year - smashing monthly mean temperature records in July and again in August - right at the top of the ice sheet at #SummitStation
In the mean time it's the 27th year in a row that @greenlandicesheet has net lost ice.
I’d really love to see the #ONstorm hashtag take root here on #mastodon
I miss the breadth and variety of up-to-the-minute posts available on the sinking fascist platform I can no longer bring myself to use (account deleted). We are under a severe weather watch here in Stratford this evening.
Hi folks! My name is Cam. I made a more serious account here after a recommendation from another member.
I am a government analyst in the emergency management sector, with a wildfire/response background. I live in a #pnw state. I currently work entirely on #FEMA recovery grants and damage assessments.
Hoping to make semi-professional acquaintances and to share lessons learned. 👍
As of 3/12/23, all 122 NWS stations that Iowa State University created rss feeds for are now published on Mastodon. The best way to find them is to search for "iembot_" and the three letter assigned to the NWS forecast office. These are not official bots from the NWS or Iowa State University. They were put together by a group of "weather intensive" people in order to inform like minded Mastodon users of weather forecasts and other reports that the National Weather Service in the US sends out.
Hurricane #Norma is strengthening southwest of Mexico.
Norma’s exact track remains quite uncertain, but it is becoming increasingly likely that there will be impacts to the southern tip of Baja California Sur and Cabo San Lucas by Saturday.
Whenever I see forecasts like rain for this weekend, I chuckle (not because of the potential for death and destruction, but because of this -- fake movie prop -- book)
(*** yes, I own that domain name. It goes to my Patreon website, which funds this Mastodon server and all of the weather bots for the National Weather Service and other agencies running here. Thanks folks!)
A large area of the US now lit up with weather warnings. Go to https://www.weather.gov/ and type in your zip code or city to get details on your area. #wx
