PeerTube, the Fediverse's alternative to YouTube, is normally associated with video. However, you can also upload audio files directly to PeerTube. It will accept lots of audio formats including .mp3, .ogg, .aac, .flac, .wma etc.
You can optionally upload an image file as a thumbnail. If not, audio files will show a black screen by default.
Molly White is one of the most thoughtful writers and thinkers on the web today. In addition to being a high functioning crypto critic, @molly0xfff is a believer and practitioner in crafting the next era of the web.
Molly believes that human connections are an inextricable part of the web and sees a bright future ahead as those connections move from walled gardens to the open web.
Check out this fantastic conversation with her on the latest episode of #DotSocial on our #PeerTube instance or wherever you get your #podcasts.
Out of 666 episodes from popular #Python#podcasts with invited guests, women appeared in only 117 (17.56%) episodes.
This inspired us to start a new podcast series highlighting women and underrepresented group in the Python #community
If you're looking to share music, podcasts or other audio on the Fediverse, you might want to sign up on a FunkWhale server.
Funkwhale is a free open source audio platform featuring channels that can be followed from Mastodon etc. You can sign up on servers or start your own.
Just found this, all about how planned obsolescence came about (it really was planned, and enforced, early on). I'd never heard the term "psychological obsolescence" before either - us thinking things are old because there's a newer shinier one. And I love that they included the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the Shoe Event Horizon at the end. Well worth a listen.

The three years I spent working on โThe Kids of Rutherford Countyโ #podcast taught me one thing: Tennesseeโs punitive policies arenโt leaving #children in the legal system better off.
Vous รฉcoutez des #podcasts sur votre smartphone Android ? Vous avez quelle bonne raison de ne pas utiliser @AntennaPod ? Honnรชtement je suis toujours reconnaissant de la qualitรฉ de cette app libre !
TOMORROW is the day... Rare Earth, BBC Radio 4's new climate and environment show, will start on 12-1pm on Friday January 19th, co-hosted by me and the ace Tom Heap. The first show is all about whether we can best help nature by just leaving it alone.
When Spotify entered the podcast world, audio producer Alex Sujong Laughlin was wary โ and with good reason, since back when she was a social media editor working at The Washington Post, she saw the devastating effect some private tech companies have had on media and journalism. She's sad to be proved right. "Spotify โ along with many other companies โ wants to create a closed ecosystem for the creation, distribution, and consumption of podcasts, bypassing RSS technology altogether because that would allow them to harvest more listener data to leverage with advertisers," she writes in this story for Defector. Luckily, she says it's not too late to take back our feeds. "You donโt have to understand the technology of RSS to choose to listen to your podcasts on an open app. You can just choose to do it." [Story may be paywalled]
Is there an @AntennaPod kind of app for iOS? I love how they engage with Blind users. I tried the app on a friends phone and that app is just perfection from a screen reader POV! I know there is @castropodcasts but I hear they haven't put out accessibility updates, and, I honestly don't think Downcast and similar cut the mustard on iOS. #Podcast#Podcasts
Hey Mastodon, what are your favourite Europe-related accounts to follow? National/European politics, culture, tech, sport, science, etc.
After initially feeling very hopeful that this site could be a great home for us post-Twitter, the conversation has rather dried up over here (for us, at least!) so weโd love to find some new people to follow!
"Meta, the global behemoth that owns Facebook and Instagram, is putting a stranglehold on recommendations in user feeds that contain political content.
The move, signalled in February, applies to Instagram and Threads, and will eventually extend to Facebook."
I'm looking for good (backend) developer, or software architecture podcasts for after work, German or English, in the style of the German "todo:cast" or the "INNOQ Podcast". Can anyone here recommend anything interesting? I always run out of episodes so fast ๐
