First and foremost, we had more than 20 wonderful participants at #YoMos2024, ranging from Bachelor- to #PhD- level #students all modelling #ecological systems. Everyone had the chance to present their projects and methods and we had vivid question+discussion rounds afterwards. Although #YoMos seems like a niche group already, we heard about a bandwidth of methods including mechanistic #eco(-evo)-models, #SDMs, #climate and vegeation models, network models, #Machinelearning, #AI and much more.

In the last month we migrated every service onto #OVHCloud's infrastructure (https://www.ovhcloud.com/) to be compliant with the EU GDPR normative regarding private data protection, and while we were at it we decided to upgrade a bit here and there. And here we are, with a new #Eco Server (made by recycled parts from other servers, how neat is this?!?!) to help us host our own #Peertube instance!
I really think the fediverse #solarpunk and #anarchy groups should host a few eco servers and play around with virtual theory and practice. The whole ability to build laws and government into the game is wild, and the need for enough people in a server to support an economy and skill specialization that working as a community that communicates with each other is a great way to practice social skills alot of Very Online folks have fewer opportunities to develop 😉 🤲🏻

I think Eco is a game a lot of people on the fediverse would like. There's an entire social ecosystem as part of the gameplay about cooperation and balance that I think really highlights what a lot of anarchist and #solarpunk utopia advocates and appreciators would enjoy.
People sometimes come over and think it's weird that we have compost toilets. I personally find it weird that a significant percentage of the world's population excretes body wastes into ~a gallon of clean drinking water and flushes it 6-10 times a day, whilst a not insignificant portion of that same population is facing significant water shortages.
