Apparently #Google has changed their privacy policy and now says that they'll scrape everything you post online to train their AI tools.
I even post my #Fiction online on #Substack & my #Wordpress blog and now wonder if this is a bad idea.
They say paywalls could deter the scraping.
What do you think writers can do to protect their content? Or should we just roll over and accept that this is the way things will be from now on?
The #ActivityPub plugin for #Wordpress is an absolute game changer when it comes to reader engagement. I published a #blog post yesterday and it already has 8 comments and 7 of them are from #Fediverse. The total number of comments is actually much higher, the plugin doesn't handle reactions to comments yet.
Meanwhile the blogpost has received 4 views from #LinkedIn and 2 from #Facebook.
what do we have to do to make the #ActivityPub plugin attractive to more #WordPress users? We are currently at 4000+ active users on WordPress.org + the WordPress.com users.
One of the things I love about the Fediverse is that it is growing in about 8 different directions and they all cohere.

#Pixelfed, #WordPress, #Microblog#Peertube are all playing substantial roles...but are not "forks' of Mastodon but are entirely different apps, which benefit from Mastodon, and give value back to it. And are one Fediverse.
RE: ActivityPub Plugin for WordPress: let's assume I would work on a feature that would allow you to follow a complete blog, what would be the best identifier for that account? @feed@example.org? @blog@example.com?
What are your ideas?

Wow it gets worse. This is a post from someone who used to work at Tumblr talking about Matt Mullenweg:

I was just on a website where the AccessiBe toolbar actually made text completely disappear and turn plain text paragraphs into a DIV, somehow, and a hidden element. I'm telling you, seek out an accessibility ready theme instead. #Wordpress has hundreds, and Shopify has them now too. You. Are. Wasting. Your. Money. On these toolbars. #Internet

I've been in this industry long enough to see things constantly come & go. #React is no different - it'll be replaced by other frameworks soon & those will be hot for a bit. Then that one will be replaced & so on. Learn your basics! #HTML#CSS, plain#JS. Those are the only things that don't come & go & will take you through your entire career, regardless of what's cool right now. Will I still be coding #WordPress in 10 years? Who knows! But my knowledge of #PHP will carry me on.
