You might see friends today suggesting you support Hard Drive on Patreon today. You know, the funny video games version of The Onion? As a journalist, I will firmly tell you DO NOT GIVE THEM A DIME.
The CEO has pushed out all former staff that have built the site up to its current greatness and has been pushing use of AI to write articles. The staff begged to have a Patreon before basically all being fired, but the idea was refused until now, when it will only line the pockets of a single person instead of hard working writers.
I know they might have provided laughs before, but Hard Drive is a shell of what it was once. Let it die and support the people who actually made those moments of joy possible.
SAG-AFTRA is seeking approval for a second strike, this time against the major video-game companies. In a statement, the organization's president, Fran Drescher, accused the companies of “greed and disrespect.” “Once again artificial intelligence is putting our members in jeopardy of reducing their opportunity to work,” she said.
Plus side to #Mastodon is the uninhibited flow of information. Downside is the world sucks right now. #Fascism, #racism, and #bigotry aren't just problems limited to the US. It's a global epidemic. #ClimateChange is real. And #war has devastated the lives of many.
Pace yourself. Follow some fun accounts. Post pictures of #cats. (Okay. #Dogs, too.) Embrace #art. Talk about your favorite #VideoGames, #books, or #hobby.
Don't look away, but don't allow yourself to be overwhelmed, either.
Took the kids to Melbourne Museum today to see 'Relics', a temporary exhibition depicting a post-apocalyptic world where LEGO minifigs have risen from the debris to craft new civilisations in discarded human artefacts.
I have to say that this repurposed old Space Invaders cab certainly caught my eye.

Neither the layoffs nor breaking ties with a playtesting company that knows their worth in the market sound like they're going to help BioWare make RPGs that can compete with Baldur's Gate 3, formerly a BioWare series.
Majority of gamers play with subtitles turned on (gearsrealm.com)
For instance, Assassin’s Creed Origins had subtitles turned off by default and 60% of players turned them on.
I saw a lot of hype / skepticism for the newly announced Blade Runner game, and just want to mention that there's already a pretty incredible Blade-Runner-inspired game, LOW-FI, releasing later this year. (www.youtube.com)
