PSA: Time to delete your Glassdoor account

The TL;DR is: Glassdoor now requires your real name and

will add it to older accounts without your consent if they learn it,

and your only option is to delete your account. They do not care that this puts people at risk with their employers. They do not care that this seems to run counter to their own data-privacy policies.

has pivoted from employer review site to LinkedIn competitor. Now when you log in they require you to enter your employment status, job title, employer, and full name. There's no way to skip these prompts. In addition, if you email their support team and include your name in your email, they will add it to your profile without your knowledge or consent. I just deleted my account. You should consider doing the same.

Judaism has laws about everything, and war is no exception.
For example, Jewish law explicitly, strictly prohibits cutting down your enemy's fruit trees during a war. Heck, Jewish law prohibits destroying fruit-bearing trees at all. Think about this the next time you hear about "religious" Jewish settlers in the West Bank destroying Palestinian olive groves.

Jews aren't allowed to risk their lives to follow Jewish law. If the choice is eat non-kosher or starve, you eat. If the choice is violate the Sabbath or a sick person can't get medical care, you violate the Sabbath.
There are only 3 commandments you're not allowed to break to save your own life. One of them is murder: you can't kill an innocent person to save yourself.
Think about this when you hear saying that killing all those noncombatants is the only way to take out .

Heads up! probably had a big security breach they're about to announce, because they just released new terms of service with a draconian binding arbitration clause, and the only way to opt out is to fill out a specific form on paper and pay to send it to them via postal mail.
Personally, I'm just going to delete my account.

Holy shit is just directly, aggressively trolling the members in the room. "You mean you're not planning on passing another 2 trillion dollar tax cut for rich people? I thought that was your plan? Good to know." Epic.

Honestly, how can any public health professional say with a straight face, "Sure, the COVID vaccine only lasts for six months, but most people aren't vaccinating, so not only are we not going to recommend getting vaccinated twice per year, we're not going to even allow it for the people who want to."
Since when is one person's healthcare supposed to be dependent on whether other people are willing to take care of themselves?

The in particular, and in general, are such fucking clowns.
They're claiming the thick chains protestors at used when occupying a building are proof that the protesters weren't real students.
In fact, not only are those chains widely used by students all over the city... Columbia itself sells them to students.
Don't fall for the NYPD's attempts to manufacture consent for violently attacking peaceful protesters.

Those of you who weren't around or aware in the 80's need to understand...
Ronald Reagan had increasingly debilitating Alzheimer's for his entire second term. The people around him were able to manipulate him. He was a puppet.
As far as the GOP Is concerned, Trump's brain being mush is an asset, not a liability.
If he wins, they'll manipulate him into appointing evil people, and then those people will manipulate him to achieve their evil goals.

I'm in a group of COVID-cautious area folks who organize COVID-safe outings to private theater showings. Everyone who attends is fully vaccinated and symptom-free, takes a rapid test beforehand, and wears a good mask for the entire movie. If you're interested, go to https://groups.google.com/g/boston-covid-safe-movies and click "Join group" near the top. We're currently organizing a Barbie outing; if you'd like to participate, see "COVID-safe Barbie showing" once you've joined the group.

Amazing that the Washington Post has plenty of time and space to showcase Libs of TikTok but literally can't spare a single word for Jack Posobiec at CPAC declaring explicitly in exactly these words that they tried to end democracy on January 6 and next time they'll succeed.

If 1% of them catch , that's 300 people.

All the numbers are probably actually higher.
Is disabling 30+ people an acceptable price to pay for a bunch of security wonks to get to socialize in person for a week?
I don't think so. Do you? Explain your answer.

Daughter works at a retail chain I won't name because she can't afford to lose her job. Unvaccinated coworker went to a concert, unmasked, kept coming to work, and got visibly sick. D begged her to test before their shift today; she didn't. D texted me from work and asked me to bring COVID tests to the store. C took a test, which came back positive. Corporate said C had to finish her shift. D said fuck that and went home (good for her).
Capitalism is killing us.

Speaking as a , if past history is any predictor of future results, then tomorrow is going to be a pretty boring day at the voting location I work at.
PLEASE, people, VOTE in these off-year elections. They're IMPORTANT.
I can assure you with absolute certainty that every single poll-worker wants you to make them work harder tomorrow.

My wife's cousin just died, and the non-religious daughter is having it out with the religious son about whether to honor their mother's verbal wishes expressed to the daughter—cremation + no funeral—vs. a religious funeral.
PSA: Parents, WRITE DOWN YOUR FUNERAL WISHES and make sure your kids know where that document is.
Also, you need a will, a healthcare proxy, and advance directives.
Don't leave behind a mess for your kids to deal with at a terrible time.

The media breathlessly reporting 's smear of while ignoring 's descent into dementia is a stark illustration of why they need to be, but aren't, following @jayrosen_nyu's rule for modern political coverage: "Not the odds, but the stakes."
They ignore Trump's lying, threats, and insanity because it's not news, because it's not new.
Their insistence on covering what's novel instead of what's important is endangering democracy.
We're rhyming with 1930s Germany.

Any advice on dealing with a bogus trademark infringement claim sent to Google?

Someone told Google that my "LInkedIn Jobs Filterer" Chrome extension violates LinkedIn's trademark. It doesn't. What can I do about it, when I can't afford to pay lawyers to defend a free, open-source extension? (See the linked blog posting for more details.)

: It's not a fluke or a lark that the "Black" in "Black people" is capitalized but the "white" in "white people" isn't. CJR does a good job of explaining why: https://www.cjr.org/analysis/capital-b-black-styleguide.php
If you post in a thread in which anti-Black racism is being discussed and you capitalize "White", you're going to come off as ignorant at best, or intentionally antagonistic and disrespectful, or a White Nationalist (see how it's capitalized there? they do that) at worst.
Don't be that person.

@darnell @downey FYI: I just had a conversation with a few folks from the White House about adding ActivityPub to whitehouse.gov.
It's something they've already started to talk about but it's possible I moved the ball forward a bit.
Given that I work for the executive branch I need to be 100% clear that during this conversation I was speaking and acting as a private citizen, not for my employer. The folks at the WH were kind enough to give me a few minutes of their time in that capacity.
