I don't wish to upset Ukrainians but they surely must realize by now that the war in is between 2 empires: the US Empire & the Russian Empire. Ukraine is cursed by geography. It'll never have true independence or sovereignty. It's destined to become part of either Greater or Greater (cough cough), the latter of which is currently a US vassal, but won't be forever. In any case, Ukraine has no good option. It'll always be under foreign suzerainty.

Here's an interesting fact. I've been on since August 2023. I have 300 posts over there, almost all of which are related to science. I only have 29/30 followers there. By contrast, I've been on for only a few days, have posted 37 times, and already have 47 followers. Either I'm terrible at communication, or Bluesky is a dead undiscoverable platform. Or maybe both. Could be an algorithmic issue, or it could be that Bsky has the worst search engine (plus no hashtags).

So I've been on for nearly 10 days and I'm absolutely loving it. Far better place than , which is now just a Nazi website, to be honest. I love that this place is overall left-leaning, albeit there is a bit of cognitive dissonance with respect to some users who appear left-leaning until, Allah/God forbid, you mention .

Anyway, there's just one thing I've noticed so far. I'm kinda embarrassed to ask but... Where are all the Black people? Any Mideasterners here too? 😕

's interview was beyond embarrassing, to be honest. Basically his entire argument is that historically belonged to .

By his own logic, Russia and Ukraine should both be part of Iran because the ancient Scythians (an Iranic people) lived there thousands of years ago, long before the arrival of the Slavic peoples.

This is exactly why I hope we erase natl borders one day and become one global federation. This planet doesn't belong to anyone. We're just guests here.

On the occasion of the Armenian remembrance day, let us not forget that , , , , Pakistan, Georgia, the , and / the are ALL guilty of helping Azerbaijan commit genocide against Nagorno-Karabakh's Armenian Christians in 2020-2023.

Israeli, Turkish and Ukrainian weapons were delivered to Azerbaijan via Georgia. Moscow greenlighted it to punish Armenia, and the West made sure its Israeli and Turkish allies got away with it.

You don't have to be White to rule over America, you don't have to be Persian to rule over Iran (Khamenei is Azeri), you don't have to be an Arab to rule over Iraq (the president is Kurdish), etc. But in , if you don't belong to a certain bloodline/ethnicity, then you cannot become head of state. Is this the future humanity wants? A kind of exclusive tribalism that didn't even exist 7000 years ago? What about Zionism makes it attractive? Nothing.

I've been on for only a few days and I already feel less anxiety/stress over here than on twitter/X. I love the fact that both Mastodon and are overall leftist/left-wing. I'm so glad the future of social media is decentralized (e.g. , ATProto, Nostr, etc.).

Twitter was never a healthy place with all its silly algorithms and encouragement of confrontations. I don't know which platform US society mostly resembles, but I hope it eventually resembles Mastodon, etc.

You can't stop from taking over America if you simultaneously enable 's genocide of Palestinians in / .

If your political party are truly against fascism, then they'd be fighting against Israeli fascism as well.

As we say in Kuwait, "We are not children, & we weren't born yesterday".

You cannot ask 1-2 billion Muslims to support your so-called "values" in while you trample on the same supposed values in the Middle East.

It saddens me that the people/developers over on have decided to intertwine the fate of their protocol with that of and other currencies. One day, bitcoin will be banned almost everywhere, including in the US, and its downfall will lead to the fall of Nostr as well. How can they not see thru bitcoin's ponziness?

I'm so grateful that / and / didn't go down that slippery route.

I don't for the life of me understand why doesn't just become a instance or an alternative. It should ditch ATProto and embrace the ActivityPub . It can't sustain itself this way without turning into another enshittified version of down the road. Just join ActivityPub so that we can have 5 mil more users; so that Bsky users can communicate with ppl on Lemmy, Mastodon, etc; and so that you can become crowdfunded a la Wikipedia and Mastodon, etc.

Wonderful #news. Another country in #Africa has decided to expel US troops. A huge blow for America, France and the West.

I'd love to see the day when American/Western troops are also expelled from Kuwait, Bahrain, the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, Iraq and many other Islamic countries.

The US Empire must be resolutely defeated and crushed. The world is bigger than a few White-majority countries that are still functioning as empires.

How to fix the crisis and stop illegal to / once and for all:

  1. Stop overthrowing, sanctioning and destroying democratically-elected Latin American countries.

  2. Invest money in Latin America so the people there don't feel they have no choice but to flee to the .

  3. Raise the minimum wage and punish capitalists for hiring low-wage workers, many of whom are desperate illegal immigrants who are being exploited.

Neither nor would do this.

Remember all the Western uproar, sanctions and occasional military interventions when Syria's Baathist dictator, Bashar Al-Assad, barrel bombed his own cities and razed them to the ground under the pretext of fighting against Western-backed Islamic terrorists? Now that does the same thing to / under the guise of fighting , the West's response is not only silence but complete support for Netanyahu.

This war was a huge win for the ayatollahs and Islamists. Huge win.

The ugly truth that very few like to admit is that countries are like organisms with minds of their own, at least metaphorically. They oftentimes cooperate with or fight one another for survival, and try to rationalize their actions by invoking nationalism, religion, (anti) fascism, communism, capitalism and a plethora of other ideologies to justify their decisions. In reality, it's a lawless jungle, refereed only by the laws of nature.

This idea is kinda similar to analytical idealism, which asserts that all individual consciousnesses are dissociated alters/derivatives of one cosmic consciousness:

It's also compatible with quantum monism.

Cosmopsychism might seem crazy, but it provides a robust explanatory model for how the Universe became fine-tuned for life

Has anyone else noticed that racialists tend to draw false parallels between DNA/genes & computer code/programs? They're not the same. They mistakenly see genes/DNA as fatalistic or strongly deterministic. There's no gene for becoming a musician. We're not "commanded" to do anything.

A few articles/papers I highly recommend reading:

I agree with this computer scientist's assessment that is a myth. I'd even go further than that and suggest that AGI is just a buzzword and that it'd probably never happen. I also don't think machines would ever become "alive", even if you teach them how to reproduce. You still cannot teach them how to adapt, as that would probably require infinite lines of code. Or maybe I'm just wrong.

The first (on the left) is of exoplanet SR 12 AB c, pictured orbiting around its host star. The second (on the right) is of the exoplanetary system GSC 6214-210.

These are raw images and therefore aren't in color, but anyone can process them.

Ever heard of terminal tourism?

I consider myself a terminal tourist lol. Basically, it's when people hang out at airport terminals even if they're not traveling. I used to do that a lot in Malta during my med school years. Used to spend hours at the observation deck, and would sometimes even eat and study there. Also used to do it a lot in Qatar. Apparently it has become a thing in America too. I used to think I was the only one who did this. 😅

Over the last day or so, I've come across a number of disgustingly racist comments made by Iranians on Bsky towards Palestinians, Arabs and immigrants. The irony is these Iranians are against their regime, primarily because they see the regime as being too pro-Arab. When confronting them about it, they pretended to be the victims. Bluesky allows this. Imagine sharing a platform with racist trash.
