I'm watching an episode of "Une Famille En Or", the #French version of #FamilyFeud, on YouTube. I'm not using subtitles as I'm trying to learn the language, which I'm much better at understanding written than spoken.
This round asks the contestants to make the sound of a farm animal. It's interesting to see how differently these onomatopoetic words are rendered in French versus English. Can you guess what animal makes each of these sounds? (No cheating if you already know French!)
where'd my #introduction go? i know i had one pinned… whatever. i boost #random#dumb things, #trains, #dogs, #cats if they're outrageous enough (they're a dime a dozen here, gotta be selective). i'm highly political and try to keep it off masto (including filtering hot-button topics from my own feed). i buy local #art and post my haul. i live in an english-speaking country but occasionally break out jacques clouseau #french to torture people. my shift key hasn't worked since about 2006. and i only #over#hashtag in #introduction posts.

Yes, my book is set in an alt-history, fantasy version of France. Yes it contains some French. Yes, you will have to work it out from context if you don't speak French.
Unlike other #nuclear#states , #France has chosen to reprocess its nuclear #waste on a massive scale, first at La Hague and then partly in... #Russia .While this saves 20% of #natural#uranium in #French nuclear #power#plants ,the #choice is politically highly questionable, since not only has it already accumulated 100 tonnes of #plutonium stored in France, which represents an enormous #risk , but it also contributes to financing the #Russian#state and, consequently, its #war in #Ukraine .
A dad joke I could make only because my kids speak French and English: “I don’t understand why French people say ‘garlic’ when they hurt themselves.” Kid 1: “That joke is so bad it’s good.” Kid 2 whacks me repeatedly, and I say: “Garlic. Garlic.” #multilingualism#French#English
26 Mar 1668: Charles II attends William Davenant's [or D'Avenant if you like] playhouse at Lincoln's Inn Fields to see what would be Davenant's final play, 'The Man's the Master' #otd - based on a #French work, published posthumously in 1669 (ECC/eebo)
On Sunday, March 24, Detroiters banished the Nain Rouge from the city for another year at the annual Marche du Nain Rouge. Legendary among the early #French settlers of Detroit, the Nain Rouge (French for "red dwarf") was purported to appear at various times throughout the city's history just prior to a catastrophic event, such as the great fire of 1805, the surrender of #Detroit to the British during the War of 1812. #folklore#legend#nouvellefrance#urbanlegend#history#nainrouge
🔴 Overnight, #French and #British#StormShadow missiles in the hands of well practiced Ukrainians rained over Russian Crimea destroying a variety of Russian garbage.
🇬🇧🗣️ #English 'doesn't exist' and is just badly pronounced #French, linguist claims 🇫🇷
