Remember how my previous employer denied my WFH request so that I could flee the state of Ohio to take care of my trans kid while still working for a company I loved?

I just heard they did it to someone else today.

When you insist people come in to an office a few days a week because you want a "hybrid culture" not a "remote culture" and then tell them to just fuck off when all they want to do is get their kid somewhere safe that makes you an absolutely shitty person.

I'm done hiding who it was.

The company is , based in Cleveland. They make ebook lending software for your local library called . They say they care about their LGBTQIA+ employees and families but that is clearly a lie.

Ohio lawmakers are turning my home state into absolute garbage and companies like this one are playing along.

Tell your local library to

[Edit, since this is doing numbers: The reason my request was denied a little over a year ago, despite me explaining in detail why, was because they "want a hybrid culture, not a remote culture." (a quote from a senior leader to my face)

In both 2020 and 2021 while the whole company was working remotely I won two annual employee excellence awards for my work on their Security team, while the company had record growth.

Meanwhile, one of my teammates moved out of state to be closer to family and continued to work remotely.]

Apparently the BBC (UK) has had 144 complaints about a recent episode of because it contained an openly character.

I'm going to make a complaint to the BBC that there weren't enough characters in Doctor Who. I would love if 144 other people did the same thing. Here's the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints/make-a-complaint/#/Complaint

(For your easy reference: "The Star Beast" aired on 25/11/2023, BBC One, and the trans character is called Rose.)

Reply when you've done it, so we can count us all. When we get to 145, everyone... gets a free BLÅHAJ? 🦈

Edit: 2 days later, mission successful: 159 complaints/comments submitted, and still climbing! A huge thank you everyone - stay tuned for hopefully some freedom of information requests!

I joined mastodon today because the CEO of had a complete meltdown recently when people called him out for deleting a trans woman's blog because she posted a transition timeline. The vibes were definitely off, just doesn't feel like a safe place right now. I'd love to follow more and folks on here! This is my second social media account (third if you count myspace. omg should I go back to myspace??) so I need all the help I can get with navigating this place.

Now this day has a whole new meaning for me as a woman. And it's my first that I celebrate publicly since coming out to everyone on June 21 of last year.

To all my siblings, I see you. Even if complete visibility isn't possible for you right now. You still matter. You're still loved. And you're still trans. Never doubt that. 🏳️‍⚧️🫂💖

My daughter has to do a project whereby she collects art depicting historical art (pre 1950) regarding LGBTQ+. It can be pro or anti, or simply examples of LGBTQ+ EXISTING.

Boosts appreciated for range.

Wow. This is actually pretty big news.

The first RCT trial for immediate access to HRT--testosterone to transmascs--has published its findings. In it, 52% of those given immediate access to testosterone had an IMMEDIATE CESSATION of their previously-present suicidal ideation, compared to 5% of those given a placebo. A treatment being ten times more effective than placebo is pretty much as decisive as it gets.

Hi Fedi Family,
In 2008 Californians voted for Prop8 that defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman in the California constitution. While this was defeated in courts this draconian Prop8 language is still in the California constitution. Justice tHomas and the right wing SCOTUS is openly hinting at destroying precedent and trampling rights. If they overturned Obergefell - the Prop8 language in the California Constitution will act as a “trigger law”, raining havoc on queer families like mine across California.
Please spread the word to vote “YES” to repeal Prop8 (2008) from the California constitution in Nov 2024. Talk to your friends, family and colleagues about it.

Boosts appreciated.

It's conservatives worst nightmare: A trans girl so popular with her peers she stole the homecoming crown by winning it fair and square.

Our TWIBS columnist Alyssa Steinsiek points and laughs at the right wing tears being shed over a trans girl who was apparently too pretty and nice and well-liked by her peers.

This isn't a subtoot of anyone, I'm just responding to something I read earlier and immediately forgot the source of:

The reason that queer and trans people are so afraid right now is not because it's necessarily worse for us than it was in the 1990s.

For me, it's worse now because it represents such an incredible backslide from the very recent past. It's also worse now because of how violent, specific, and individual the threats are.

There is a sense that the gloves are off, and hurting us is overtly the point - the veneer of civility is gone. The fact that most people are not responding uniquely to this unique level of hostility is worrying, to me!

There's also a demographic problem happening right now that was never present before: As we come out, and as we choose to be visible, our true number becomes more apparent. The other side doesn't seem very chill about the fact that like three queer or trans people could simultaneously citizen's-arrest every cop in the US!

The transphobes are responding to the actuality of trans people now, not the fictional idea that someone, somewhere, was transgender. That is new, and I think it's dangerous.

Mastodon, I'm bringing this one to you first.

Earlier this week the New York Times claimed to have partially corroborated some of Jamie Reed's allegations against a clinic for transgender youth in St. Louis.

Their story did not back up the assertion that they corroborated Reed's claims. I know that because I looked at every single one of the 69 claims.

The gender police are escalating their intimidation campaign against the trans community and against any cisgender girl who they think doesn't look feminine enough.

In Utah, it's so bad the real police are protecting a cis girl athlete falsely accused online of being trans. Note that this is a completely different cisgender Utah athlete than the one we reported on facing a similar (though less extreme) situation a couple weeks ago.

Where does it end?

It was a real mystery, and required hours of reporting, but we found it.

...the UK press. They made it up. Completely. #trans #news #journalism #mediabias
