Journalists: Only those with advanced degrees in computer science should even attempt to navigate Mastodon, the frustrations of its complexities will drive the average user to a state of hysteria.
Part of that is, journalists during the migrations last year puffed up Mastodon being hard to use, not because it's hard to use, but because it didn't replicate their experience on Twitter on day one
It made me question the reliability of some of the #journalists with their other subjects
It's like complaining Burger King sucks because the Whopper doesn't fit in a Big Mac box
Journalists, esp tech journalists, have been really hard on Mastodon. Still are #Mastodon
I've been essentially off Twitter for almost a year now, and Mastodon has become an increasingly rich, diverse replacement. Many of the gaps that were here a year ago are filling in.
I still miss the extensive breaking news coverage and official government and org accounts I remember from Twitter.
When I've mentioned this in the past, zealots here have suggested I shouldn't want those things and that they'd somehow ruin this "community".
I disagree. We can have those things without Nazis.
@mattblaze
I'm more than happy with my #Mastodon experience. There are bot accounts for most everything not here.
I still really miss the local #Pittsburgh sports talk & interaction. Going back for that less and less, but #gameday will probably be a different story.
@Neblib
I see it now! I think once an hour should be fine.
And yeah, I believe ernest (Kbins developer) is still working on the API. The last I heard it should be released/updated soon...ish lol.
Right now, I believe only artemis.camp is running kbins API, but even that version is not quite finished. My understanding is that Artemis uses scraping for rest.
Personally, I am excited for the API to be finished and Artemis to support kbin.social, but these things take time to do right.
Still though, this bot is a great step in the right direction for communicating between our communities on #kbin and #mastodon.
“Starting this fall, an upcoming developer beta release of visionOS will include the App Store”
visionOS seems to be mostly on the iOS 17 cycle, even if the hardware is still months away (probably not as many as you think). That means the App Store is opening up soon™.
I will be opting all my apps out of the visionOS App Store until I've had enough time with a physical unit to ship a native version. I do not intend to have the iOS versions available, even in beta
You know what? You can serve me ads or put me behind a paywall, but not feck'n both.
LOL to the news & popular websites that won't let you view their content with an ad blocker turned on and then when you temporarily disable it once to view the article, they feed you a zillion ads, a partial article then block you from the rest of the article unless you get behind the paywall.
A lot of major, popular sites are doing this.
Your content is being summarized elsewhere. I don't need you.
No software released by anyone is ever guaranteed to be bug free. Microsoft, Apple, and Linux, for example, have bug patches all the time. Social media is no exceptions, as even Facebook and Twitter experience bugs.
The advantage of using mastodon.social is while we may experience bugs once in a while, because we're on the bleeding edge copy, we also receive the patch fix sooner.
People wanting "engagement" but never think what that costs their mental health.
I don't have to lock my account down on #Mastodon because I'm openly bisexual, this is good for my mental health. #Twitter is bad, and was even before Musk took over (because Dorsey is a cunt too)
I cleaned up my #Mastodon#news second-monitor display thing and made it available on GitHub.
It's a single HTML file to make as user-friendly as possible. Download it, open it in your browser, and if you've got JavaScript turned on it should Just Work.
I commented the heck out of it so you should find it easy to customize it with your own news source and tags to monitor.
By the way. My #apple2#mastodon client doesn't work on the IIgs, because it's a different serial chip.
But if someone had a IIgs they'd want to gift, I would totally write the necessary driver and make it work! Just saying. #retroComputing
