Hackers from TU Berlin managed to jailbreak #Tesla cars, unlocking software-locked features worth up to $15,000 🪓🪓🪓
They used a known (unpatchable) voltage fault injection attack against the AMD Secure Processor to glitch the boot process, got root, and retrieved the car's RSA private key 👌
For years, the media built up Elon Musk and got the public to buy into the myth of his genius. Now the truth of who he is can’t be hidden and changing how they cover Musk isn’t enough.
The media failed us. They not only need to inform the public about the harms of Musk’s empire, but change how they cover the entire tech industry so another grifter can’t replicate his rise. They owe us nothing less.
"Swedish workers are uniting against #Tesla. From tomorrow, cleaners will stop cleaning Tesla showrooms, electricians won’t fix the company’s charging points, and dockworkers will refuse to unload Tesla cargo at all Swedish ports. What started as a strike by Tesla mechanics is spreading, in something Swedish unions describe as an existential battle...The standoff in #Sweden is the biggest union action the company has faced anywhere in the world"
The fallout is growing from Tesla’s continued refusal to sign a collective agreement with its Swedish mechanics.
On top of the solidarity strikes, one of Denmark’s largest pension funds is selling its $58 million stake in Tesla for refusing to respect the Nordic labor model.
The writer of this piece is marvelous. Just a total joy to read someone tear into an outrageous & dangerous thing like the #Tesla biz model the way it actually deserves
“#Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective
Wheels falling off cars at speed. Suspensions collapsing on brand-new vehicles. Axles breaking under acceleration. Tens of thousands of customers told Tesla about a host of part failures on low-mileage cars. The automaker sought to blame drivers for vehicle ‘abuse,’ but Tesla documents show it had tracked the chronic ‘flaws’ and ‘failures’ for years.” https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-musk-steering-suspension/
In the Washington Post, my take on Tesla Autopilot:
“Even if [Tesla owners] accept [Autopilot's risks], what about everyone on a public road or street who is not in a Tesla? None of us signed on to be a guinea pig.”
(Screenshot from ‘Total Recall’ below. It’s the dystopian Arnold Schwarzenegger film from 1990. Kinda funny since the cybertruck is facing a total recall right now 😂)
Remember all the times Elon Musk said Tesla is so amazing for the environment? The company is being sued for violating the Clean Air Act hundreds of times in recent years by emitting harmful pollutants from its Fremont factory into nearby neighborhoods.
"Instead of giving the biggest incentives to the biggest batteries, government policy should focus on electrifying the vast majority of daily trips, which start and end at home and could easily be handled by vehicles with 100 miles of range or less.... That means incentivizing e-bikes, plug-in hybrids, and other small battery electric vehicles, not holding fleet electrification hostage to the 5 percent use cases."
Tesla faked its dashboard range projections under orders from Elon Musk so it seemed drivers could go farther before recharging. Last year, the volume of complaints became so high it created a special team to start canceling owners’ service appointments.
🍋#Tesla launched its own car insurance. These drivers say it's a lemon
#Musk promised cheaper, better, even “revolutionary” auto insurance after Tesla started losing sales because of high premiums. But understaffing left some customers waiting weeks or months for compensation as they continued making payments on crashed cars. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-insurance/
1/... "What’s so jarring about all this is not simply the laughable insignificance of the fines in all of these cases, but the fact that every single data point we have points to the same picture: #Tesla is a routine, systemic polluter that ignores environmental laws across every aspect of its business..Tesla knows the cost of violations is so low, it makes effectively no effort to meaningfully comply with any environmental law."
