Just saw that #Etsy has had three articles about how they mistreat their sellers in as many days. As an independent #artist myself, I've been struggling to find purchase (and purchasers) on the platform, which is why I started building #magpiemarket - a #federated Etsy-alternative. These articles just go to show how much we need a new space that helps #artists rather than uses them. Please #boost this to help us spread the word.
I wrote a piece on a #Coop alternative to Etsy that just launched, one that puts power back into the hands of artists & makers: @coopartisans (glad they're on Mastodon!)
I didn't realize the extent to which #Etsy had become toxic to sellers until starting interviews for this piece. It's clear that artisans are being drawn to this because an alternative is long overdue.
(there's a tech issue with the authorship at the top; it names me as the author at the bottom)
Hey anyone who uses #etsy, they are changing their terms and conditions so you cannot participate in class action lawsuits against them. You can opt out using these steps, but you have to do it before 23rd August 2023.
It applies if you have a profile there, whether you sell or not!
In the last days of 2023 I launched the sticker collection "Moss covering objects of our time" and shared it only here on #mastodon. I couldn't have chosen better. The reactions and orders I received gave me energy that will last throughout 2024. Thank you for that.
Magpie Market is a federated platform aiming to be an alternative to #etsy; leveraging the Fediverse to help #artists, craftspeople, and others promote and sell their goods and services. We believe the #fediverse deserves a marketplace built with federation in mind.
Why YSK: You should know that you can protect yourself as a buyer or a seller as anyone who uses Etsy. It's a very popular sales platform and they're making some changes to prevent class action lawsuits against any shenanigans they might pull against buyers and sellers on the platform. You have the ability to opt out of this to...
The Artisans Co-Op is asking people to repost this graphic! If you're a handmade artisan and you're tired of #Etsy's nonsense, this co-op might be for you. You can find membership info at https://artisans.coop/membership/
Oh crap, I've only been on #Etsy for a few weeks and made 3 sales, but it has been THE WORST experience! Endless spam, useless, automated "support", punishments that were never explained and finally getting my account suspended for no reason, and Etsy gets to keep my money for up to half a year — if you want to sell your stuff somewhere, I'd recommend anywhere else!
Check out my blogpost if you want more details. https://alinaleonova.net/blog/etsy #WritingCommunity#blog#shit
LB: if you buy from Etsy, which sucks and is pretty hostile to the creatives who sell on the site, please consider using https://artisans.coop instead. It’s a co-op in the truest sense of the term, in that the organization is run and governed by the artists on the platform. Spread the word!
"Google is trying to kill the 10 blue links. Twitter is being abandoned to bots and blue ticks. There’s the junkification of Amazon and the enshittification of #TikTok. Layoffs are gutting online media. A job posting looking for an “AI editor” expects “output of 200 to 250 articles per week.” #ChatGPT is being used to generate whole spam sites. #Etsy is flooded with “AI-generated junk.” Chatbots cite one another in a misinformation ouroboros. 1/2
I just made this set:)
Lilac jewellery set, a touch vintage and shimmering 🩵🩷🩵
This would make the perfect gift for the holidays and would look amazing in cosplay and events.
I just made this set. It took a lot to get out of bed today but hey, it was worth it.
This would make the perfect gift for the holidays and would look amazing in cosplay and events.
For a really limited time both Etsy and Bandcamp take no transaction fees - which means any purchase you make will go directly to the musicians and handmade art creators.
My stuff is here, hope you find music and jewellery to make yours!
so, little #selfpromo post as as I haven's sold any of my mugs for 2 month.
I make these #pride#mugs with unique mosaic patterns - every mug I print myself and press myself. All of them are made based off my own physical #art
I also have a website with my gallery (also as #RSS feed!) https://kittenme.ws/art/gallery
(I do sell my artworks, and really need to get some space - so please DM me)
Edit: I'm raising the price by 0,10€ to 40,00€ - there's an etsy coupon code "yes10" that gives you 10€ off the set - that is fully paid by etsy (looks like only for United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany)
