Oof. Brutal.

"I once found it meaningful when people set aside differences to build bridges towards positive change. It was not always easy to be in these spaces because of political or religious differences, sometimes related to /, and sometimes because I was the only Orthodox in the room. But I really believed that the more diverse the coalition, the more likely we could reach success.

These days I’m so sad. Sad for the tremendous losses all around. And on a personal level, I’m also sad that I devoted so many years of my life to groups that don’t seem to care about me or my pain."

No reading this post (and perhaps only some men) will be surprised that in work on in the , McKinsey found that women 'are twice as likely to be interrupted & hear comments on their emotional state' which also leads to 'a third of women who don’t speak up to share an opinion [doing so] because they don’t want to appear disagreeable'!

Anyone who thinks the work of is largely done, is (sadly) fooling themselves!

Another day, another man causes the death of a but is given a suspended sentence because his actions on the day were a lapse from his normal attentive relations with his partner...

So it would seem to the Judge, her death was less important than his, 'normal' behaviour.

Its pretty clear that the legal system is patterned by a difference in attitudes to women's and men's lives.....

The Q. might be what would have happened if the roles had been reversed?

Y’all INTERSEX BIRTHS ARE NOT SUPER RARE

you just don’t hear about it because folks aren’t running around advertising what’s in their pants.

This is crazy to me. I mean I don’t understand why people live in Florida in the first place, it’s always humid and disgusting and a sinkhole could open up at any moment and swallow your whole entire entire house. But this is crazy.

“Well, the other day the state of Florida outlawed these documents for Floridians, making owning them an arrestable offense, but also intentionally made the application of the law so vague that it is applicable to everyone that’s had a name and gender marker change in any state. I had my documents updated to best reflect who I medically was born as according to my doctors.
It would be illegal for me to use my identity documents in any official capacity, like operating a motor vehicle, boarding flights, filing I-9 documents with a Florida based employer, filing Florida state taxes, or going to school. For those still in Florida who are in my shoes, you could add voting to this list of things that will get someone thrown in jail.”
It is now against the law for me to drive or go to school in because I’m a : r/TwoXChromosomes https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/1afteeh/it_is_now_against_the_law_for_me_to_drive_or_go/

There is a woman I learned of here on Mastodon a few months ago named whose story is absolutely AMAZING!

She dressed up as a man to be in the Union Army. She was soldier, a spy, a double agent spy against the Confederate Army, and an army nurse. She even went as far as to darken her skin with silver nitrate to go undercover into Confederate territory disguised as a male slave.

"When a Union agent was hanged for spying, she volunteered to take his place. Though interviewed by a panel of high-ranking officers for the dangerous work, she still managed to conceal her true sex. Ever resourceful, she shaved her head, blackened her skin with silver nitrate, donned a plantation suit and a curly black wig, and passed into the Confederate camp at Yorktown as a slave answering to the name 'Cuff'."

At age 48, decades after her service, she moved to Texas and lived in LaPorte. Eight years later she passed away, was buried with military honors and is the only buried in the Grand Army of the Republic section of Washington Cemetery in , Texas.

You can read more about her story at the below article.

She laughed.

Oh, she knew perfectly well that she was supposed to be serious, concerned, keeping up on the news of the day, fearful of the Next Big Thing, savvy and cool, yet at the same time perturbed and troubled over . . . everything.

But she opted not to.
