I have had similar experiences meeting unskilled, ill-prepared people heading down on the trails out of Grand Canyon Village — gravity fools many people.

While the National Park Service rescues many people (apparently only the USCG conducts more SARs in the US): https://www.fox13now.com/news/fox-13-investigates/thousands-of-national-park-visitors-need-rescue-every-year-and-its-costing-taxpayers
I don't believe they charge in most cases. The same is not true of several states: https://www.themanual.com/outdoors/search-and-rescue-guide/
Some states do provide low-cost "insurance" cards.

For a time in the late 1990s and early 2000s, I did a semi-regular Morning Edition segment with Bob Edwards about the technology scene. He was endlessly interested in the world, and a gracious conversationalist with a perfect voice for radio. I'm grateful to have known him.

Guess what. I'm in a very shitty, blocky mood today.

Come into my feed and tell me we need a new candidate? Bye.

Start kvetching and playing into their hands by indulging in the "He's too old" crap. See ya.

Whine about our 2 party system when right now we need to be fighting our asses off for democracy and supporting our candidates? .

This is NOT the day to test my patience.

The brilliant color lasted in the sky for no more than fifteen minutes this morning before turning back to a uniform gray. (Skies are blue now.) Wife spotted it on her way out the door; I was busy with the dogs. Shouted for the boys (getting ready for school) to come quick. Everyone shared the view. Simple —always be ready for it. 😊

Have a good day.

Here is the appellate court's denial of Trump's claim of immunity:
https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cadc.40415/gov.uscourts.cadc.40415.1208593677.0.pdf

The decision opens by summarizing the allegations in the indictment, being careful to add that guilt hasn't yet been determined.

The court then dismisses the idea that they don't have jurisdiction over the issue and concludes that it does.

Then, on to immunity. The court rejects Trump's "separation of powers" argument, saying this:

That's strong language.

We're definitely moving toward the unsocial network if we aren't already there. Bowling alone? Forget it. Apparently the desired tech future — maybe not mine or yours; what is pushing — is about isolationism, where you don't even have to leave your desk (worker drones!) or your bunker ( overlords!)

is also being pushed by another — political — group. 😕

Coincidence? 🤔

The hackers' goal has been to lay groundwork to cripple key US systems in the event of a hostile conflict between and the US. "...they're not focused just on political or military targets."
