I'm looking into embedding fediverse posts and I see that out of the major platforms, only Mastodon and Peertube support embedding via iframes.

Some of the platforms should at least support oEmbed, but I can't seem to get this to work.

Does anyone know more about this?

Sehr cool, seit heute ist es bei der RC-Version von möglich verschiedene (Channels genannt) selber zu definieren. Also verschiedene und in einer Suche zusammenzufassen und zu speichern, so eine Arte selbst definierter Algorithmus also. Natürlich kann man dort auch Hashtags angeben die nicht in der Suche erscheinen sollen. Ich werde damit mal etwas herum experimentieren.

Mal schauen wie dieses Feature die Performance belastet.

Wenn nun noch die Widgets nach belieben ein- und ausgeschaltet werden könnten wäre ich erst mal glücklich.

(Sollte ein öffentlicher Beitrag werden, deshalb jetzt noch mal mit den richtigen Berechtigungen)

Friendica 2023.04 just dropped today! Can't wait to upgrade to use some of the polished up API endpoints in Relatica! Some are already in there but not working since Relatica checks the Friendica version and knows what can and can't be done (like post editing) for a given version. Others I really wanted my real data to be available for me to implement with. So stoked either way. Hats off to the whole Friendica team! friendi.ca/2023/04/23/friendic…

I'm trying to do a bit of a social media detox (more just timeboxing my social media usage) but still want to post things. I therefore think I may add a "focus mode" to Relatica. My thought is that in focus mode is really about shutting out access to the timeline. So the only timeline you'll be able to see are your own posts. Notifications would be disable as with all other timelines. Creating posts will be fine. Browsing comments on your posts and commenting on comments would work too. Just a thought...

So I am a bit confused over this ability to search. While the search function in has been very limited I have just repeated the same search on and and got lots of results compared to the same search on Mastodon.

These results have not been from posts that I have liked, boosted or commented on.

Have Friendica and Firefish always had a better search functionality than Mastodon?

Do they respect the option to not be included in searches?

So… welcome to new users in the network!

If you are exploring the fediverse through the software, feel free to explore other platforms like to mention a few, for your usual “status updates” (and more) UI/UX.

If you want a platform more focused on photos and images, then there is . Or, you want bookshelves and tracking what you've read, or leaving reviews, there is .

But the beauty of it all, all of these are connected to the fediverse. You can follow any user regardless of which software they are using; AND regardless which server (domain name) they signed-up for.

A: Features.

While the above examples can be used for images, Pixelfed was built for, well, images. It was made to cater for uploading photos ah sharing your digital artworks.

Meanwhile, Bookwyrm is best for, can you guess it? ! It features bookshelves where you can categorise your collection. You can also track your reading. Leave reviews. can too, if they want.

It's no different to comparing the old vs vs vs . All of it can host photos and albums, but Instagram is focused on sharing images. Twitter for . Facebook for socialising (or ads). Goodreads for books and reviews.

The difference? The latter are disconnected. While the former, the fediverse, are interoperable.

Remember, you don't have to create multiple accounts. Keep one firefish or Mastodon or or or account, you can still connect to users using Pixelfed, , , , , and, if they will ever launch support as they told us, and .

Hallo Fediverse! Bitte um Rückmeldung + Ergänzungen: Übersichts-Tabelle mit Fediverse-Diensten, Vergleichsdiensten und Funktionen

Ich schreibe einen Artikel über den und in dem Rahmen natürlich auch über das . Zielgruppe sind Leute, die wahrscheinlich zum Großteil noch gar nix vom Fediverse gehört haben.
Dazu bin ich dabei, eine Tabelle zu erstellen, in der einige Fedi-Dienste sowie deren Haupt-/ besondere Funktionen aufgeführt werden sollen.

Das ist der derzeitige Entwurf:

Ein Vergleich mit kommerziellen Plattformen ist natürlich immer nur zum Teil passend. Ich kenne auch keinen der kommerziellen Dienste aus eigener Erfahrung, aber für die avisierte Zielgruppe kann so ein Vergleich vielleicht trotzdem eine hilfreiche Orientierung sein. Vielleicht gibt es da aber auch Vergleiche, die passender sind. Einige Dienste (bspw. Medium, Podigee) kannte ich auch noch nicht mal vom Namen her, sondern habe das nur aus ähnlichen Vergleichstabellen übernommen.

Zu den "besonderen Funktionen":
Insbesondere Friendica, Firefish und v.a. Hubzilla haben so viele Funktionen, dass diese im Rahmen der Tabelle nur exemplarisch aufgeführt werden können und die Auswahl ist subjektiv. Hier wäre die Frage, ob das eine passende Auswahl ist, ob besonders wichtige fehlen oder ob andere Funktionen wichtiger oder besonderer sind.

The day I finally learnt to fully give up on all apps and feel happy with what mail notifications and the mobile browser are capable of doing. web frontend has greatly improved with the last versions, and there's no "real" app handling Friendica specific features, such as in the post dialog, filtering by network type or meaningfully resharing Tumblr or Diaspora posts, anyhow - and dealing with apps can be a drain to ones time even greater than different Fediverse accounts in itself.

I think Nitter is unofficially dead thanks to the most recent Twitter access constrictions for even just navigating there through a website. Multiple servers are giving very bad responses to profile queries that have always worked. There were a handful of accounts I still followed over on Birdshite/$8chan who either didn't jump over to the fediverse or jumped over and then jumped back. I have no intention of going to Twitter proper to see their content. I hope they at least start cross posting to either here or Bluesky (at least Friendica can bridge over to that experimentally). Until then to them I say "adiós muchachos"

I am what I would consider a pretty boring dad to five kiddos, from Lawrence KS. I'm most definitely , and in a past life I'd much rather be a good book or playing some on whatever system is current.

These days, I can generally be found at home, doing the thing as an application dealing with lots of fun (...not).

Downtime has me learning , , , and basically anything shiny that catches my eye.

I've been for the last few years, doing maintenance mode for most of that time, with no plans to change any time soon. It's a lifestyle for me, not a diet.

I've got a handful of accounts on the , one of which is my single user instance. I'm trying different things out to see which I prefer most.

The latest beta of Relatica mobile/desktop client for Friendica is now released: 0.5.0. This release today was prompted to fix the reshared post issues with the latest Friendica 2023.04 server software but I had been building up a bunch of big new things for 0.5.0 that are in this as well. This is the first release with a responsive design for desktop and tablets. So images and videos in posts now scale, timeline widths don't stretch forever, et cetera. Videos are playable in the full size media screen (except on Linux). Links now open in the system browser not an in-Relatica web view. You can do all your group (Mastodon Lists) management in the app now. There are a bunch of other tweaks as well listed in the CHANGELOG file. This is also the first release where I'm posting binaries that work on Ubuntu 20-based Linux distros. This should cover a lot more Linux distros than previously not just Ubuntu of course. Binaries are up for all platforms besides Mac/iOS but those are in review now and should be released in the next day or so by Apple. gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…

Heute Nacht dann das erste mal seit langem mit #Friendica ( @wagrien ) beschäftigt.

Ich schrieb ja gestern schon, dass bei mir die Features bei einer solchen Fedi-Anwendung wichtig sind, aber nicht alles. Es muss sich auch gut anfühlen(Macke von mir). Also ich muss mich wohl fühlen. Dieses Wohlfühlen wird generiert durch Features, Handling und Aussehen.

Was bei meinem eher kurzen Test damals schon aufgefallen ist, das Aussehen kommt (für mich) sehr altbacken und wenig fancy rüber.

Zum Handling kann ich noch nichts sagen. Die Menge an Features, Einstellungen & Co. erschlagen einen regelrecht am Anfang. Da wirds bissl dauern bis alles erkundet, eingestellt und optimiert ist und bis ich mich da etwas orientiert habe und auskenne. Ist halt ungewohnt.

An die #Friendica Usys:

  1. Welche Features muss ich mir denn unbedingt anschauen & testen ?
  2. Wenn ich von Sharkey Friendica Profile aufrufe, kann ich einen Profilheader sehen. Bin ich bei Friendica eingeloggt, finde ich die Möglichkeit einen Profilheader einzurichten nicht 🤔
  3. Gibt es bei Friendica Reactions ?
  4. Es gibt bei Friendica den Bilder Ordner/Reiter. Kann man von dort Bilder an seine Posts hängen, dass man wenn man öfter mal das gleiche Gif oder Grafik nutzt, es nicht ständig neu hochladen muss und ganz wichtig, nicht ständig die Bildbeschreibung neu eingeben muss ?
  5. Gibt es generell die Möglichkeit Bildbeschreibungen (Alttext) zu verfassen ? Finde das irgendwie nicht.

Ich bin ja eigtl. ziemlich zufrieden instanzmäßig mit Sharkey. Mein Zufriedenheitslevel liegt bei etwa 80 % diesbezüglich. Wer mich kennt weiß, dass das schon extrem gut bewertet ist. In den letzten zwei Wochen habe ich mich noch mal genauer umgeschaut bez. , & . Dazu habe ich ja auf meinem Backup Account auch kürzlich eine Umfrage gestartet. Die ist zwar noch nicht zuende, zeigt aber jetzt schon wie die Sachlage ausschaut.

Durch einen Kommentar von @alyx zu der Umfrage wurde ......... Ups, ich habe etwas missverstanden, daher hier ein ​:edit2:​ In dem Kommentar erfuhr ich folgendes bezüglich Iceshrimp:

Da die ganze misskey Basis 'nen ziemliches Chaos ist, arbeiten sie aktuell sogar an einem kompletten rewrite und kommen wirklich gut voran. Ist noch etwas Arbeit, ins besonders im Frontend, aber ich bin zuversichtlich, dass wir bis zum Ende des Jahres 'nen ordentliches release haben werden.

Das fand ich schon sehr spannend und ich freue mich auf den Tag wenn da ein Release kommen wird.

Und da mein erster und einziger Test von schon sehr lange her ist, möchte ich mir das auch noch mal genauer anschauen.

Ich werde 100 %ig bis Jahresende weiter mit Sharkey fahren bzw. bis zum Release des "neuen" Misskey. Dann werde ich neu bewerten und schauen ob es FÜR MICH noch besser geht als mit Sharkey. Vielleicht legt ja bis dahin einer der anderen Kandidaten noch mächtig zu oder es kommt ein neuer großartiger Player mit ins Spiel. Jedenfalls wird dann eine Entscheidung fallen zwischen Sharkey, Misskey oder Friendica (?) wenn nichts ungeplantes passiert.

Mastodon wird nicht mehr in Betracht gezogen. Das liegt mittlerweile BEI MIR weit abgeschlagen ganz hinten weil zu viele Beschneidungen und fehlende Features. Ich betone extra "FÜR MICH" weil ich das nicht für alle schlecht reden will. Wenn 1 damit zufrieden ist, voll ok. Mir gefällts nicht mehr. Ich sage immer, mit Mastodon kann man im Fedi mitmischen. Mit z.B. Sharkey wird das Erlebnis dann einfach FANCY ​:headbanging:​
