The frequency and duration of ad breaks is beginning to make me feel like I’m in that black mirror episode where they had to pay to stop ads from constantly playing.

I definitely consume too much dystopian content to be a fair dystopian barometer, but the sheer amount of ads being pushed my way is starting to make me feel legitimately anxious. It feels like a techno-dystopia where all of the neat and artistic elements have been extracted and then ground into dust for our corporate overlords....

☠️ Gadgeteering

is derived from and applies to tech companies that introduce highly -invasive devices into our world. Cashing in and be damned.

A is also the naive or careless person who wears these and is either oblivious of the detrimental externalities of the tech to society, or criminally negligent of those (usually -following hipsters).

Yes, yes, that's a GREAT idea, let's arm robot dogs with flame throwers! Great idea! (they are pitching this for prescribed fire burning for wildfire prevention and "snow and ice removal from driveways"... at least until they find a military buyer, I am sure). https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/company-unveil-robot-dog-companion-with-flamethrower-attached/vi-AA1nvoEb

Of course Levar Burton wants you to read banned books. Heven Haile sits down with Levar and MoveOn’s Rahna Epting to talk about it.

“When I read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time,” LeVar Burton says, “I couldn’t imagine that situation in my reality. It was a shame, right? Wow. Those poor people in that misguided society. I live in that society now. That dystopian story has become my truth.”

Two days ago, I went to an especially dangerous place, with an and special prescription glasses designed to keep surrounding air out of my eyes. I snorted not one but two different kinds of nasal sprays immediately after, and gargled with CPC mouthwash.

There I wound up closer to an unmasked person who had obviously been sick than I’d been since 2020. Sniffles and throat clearing, and standing right next to me.

It was the nurse at my doctor’s office.

A 'serious' drawing after a month or two of a drawing break. Idk.

Tried drawing this concept a couple times before but it wasn't until now that I feel somewhat satisfied with it. Any thoughts? Lemme know- and guess what childhood show this may be, haha! (this drawing is my headcanon of it, dont judge!! 😭😭)

PKD writing presciently about our current information age?

"It is like information theory; it is noise driving out signal. But it is noise posing as signal so you do not even recognize it as noise...If you can float enough disinformation into circulation you will totally abolish everyone’s contact with reality, probably your own included."

Another day, another old friend getting back in touch with me, and me discovering that they have a form of long covid but refuse to acknowledge it. They are "burnt out on hearing about covid" and "not getting the new shot because it will make things worse" (their doctor told them this!). And also they have "mysterious" heart disease issues, which have become worse recently. No idea why!

Whatever, I guess they go into the pile with all my other old friends whose eyes glaze over when I say the word "covid" as they tell me how "it's no big deal, after all it's mild now" and firmly tell me basically "you do you" and change the subject or end the conversation.

This friend used to talk about how dystopian things are becoming. I guess once you become a part of the dystopia, it's all suddenly Business As Usual.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

This one didn't hold up well. There were many slurs and some very asinine assumptions.

His dystopian utopia bred people into levels of intelligence and (presumably) drive. Then, forcibly infantilized them during their off-hours with drugs and abundant sex. (I'm not going into the whole squick of the sex games for toddlers and calling having sex all the time a way of infantilizing people...)

... Everyone can't live forever, where would we put them? ... Why do you think taxes and prices go up on the same day in the ghetto? The cost of living keeps rising to make sure people keep dying. How else could there be men with a million years while the rest live day to day?

But the truth is, there's more than enough. No one has to die before their time."
