CALL OUT! Please boost!

Hello generative art people! This year I am heading up arts & installations at EMF Festival.

https://emfcamp.org/

We have a new shorts cinema showing a rolling programme throughout the festival and we think it will be a great way to showcase the generative art world.

If you have something short (~1-15 mins) you'd like shown, please email your name, a title and a link to:

films@emfcamp.org

The theme is Solarpunk if you want to be on-brand, but we're up for anything interesting.

Many of the shows you go to (likely unmasked) are run by who are struggling with . Trust me. I'm one of them. And I'm not the only one of them in this room.

Please, if you go into crowded public spaces like and , .

It's a nightly devastation to be one of only a handful of masked people at a sold-out show.

The artists you love and your fellow fans deserve better. YOU deserve better.

Background actors are usually paid a couple of hundred bucks (if that) for a day, and it can be a path toward larger roles. But not if your AI persona is now owned by a studio in perpetuity. Wow. - During SAG-AFTRA negotiations, the studios allegedly demanded the ability to use AI on background actors for a day rate, owning their image forever. - https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/actors-strike-sag-artificial-intelligence-hollywood-studios-background-1234788191/

I finally watched Only Lovers Left Alive and I can't get it out of my head. Yes the story is beautiful in so many ways, but also every frame is a goddamn masterpiece worthy of hanging in a museum. WOW.

Mutant Mayhem was adorable. Really fun romp. Probably the best way they could modernize the origin story for the turtles.
As someone who grew up with the ORIGINAL comics, this was a really sweet version to share with my daughter.

"Cinematically, Manhattan is still a place where pretty blond women can traipse through the West Village in Manolo Blahniks. But now it’s also a place where Korean Canadian creative types can fall in love, lose their shit on the sidewalk, and hold real power over the men in their lives. Past Lives is the kind of bilingual hit that, just a few years ago, probably wouldn’t have been possible."

Ferrell says he had “zero knowledge” of the trans community before this happened, all he wanted to do was understand how he could help.

Worker/artist owned cooperative — with distribution, to tell their own stories. Images below.

  1. Workers, writers, and artists start a cooperative production company

  2. They license/option existing stories to the company (which they own together!) and put stories on a website where audiences can access them

  3. Stories can be scripts, treatments, readings, storyboards — it's great material in those formats, and people will dive into those stories just the same

  4. Share the website (distribution!) with followings, along with a way to subscribe

  5. You now have a worker/writer/artist owned cooperative, with distribution, stories, and an audience!

More details in the images below, made as a guide/resource to be helpful.

Page 2 of 2 << Back Start lo-fi productions This is the alternative to the Hollywood studio and streaming system. Workers and artists start low-budget productions, for their own cooperative and distribution website and audience. Even if it’s shot on a smartphone in a single room over a weekend. Non-extractive funding (if helpful) If the cooperative wants more resources - to make more stories, get more workers and crew involved, or anything else - the success thus far can be the basis for non-extractive funding (like loans, revenue-based financing, or even advertising fom businesses you want to support - like a local farm, a direct action group, or a bicycle company.) Funders are paid back through revenue, whether subscriptions or advertisements or earned income or other possibilities. How to start? Workers, writers, artists interested in leading their own cooperative production company. They license/option stories to the cooperative, which they co-own! They meet with a lawyer who’s on the same page, to make the legal framework. All members have a profit-share in the cooperative overall - it probably makes sense that people also have a profit-share in the projects they work on directly. The cooperative puts up a website which gives audience access to scripts, treatments, readings, storyboards, and stories. (Distribution!) Ran out of characters here, will post the rest of the description in the toots. Feel free to contact for more details as well.

"Past Lives" and "The Holdovers" are such brilliant - so quiet, wise, playful, and modest, with incisive acting and luminous cinematography - I'd love it if they launched a trend toward more humane cinema, in this era when public discourse is dominated by vapid shrieking.

SUSHI GIRL

Uneven but entertainingly lurid crime movie that fulfills the Luke Skywalker/Candyman team up you spent years wishing for.
Decent performances cover up a derivative story. Gratuitous gore and nudity also cover up most of its flaws.
Nothing special but you never feel your time is wasted.
Watch even if you're allergic to seafood.
