Can we all just sit here and gaze upon this mastery by Rick Parks in 16 colors? No scanning, done by hand in Deluxe Paint on an Amiga. It's almost photographic in its perfection.

Rick worked at Westwood Studios and worked on Eye of the Beholder I & 2, Dune 2, Kyrandia and other classics.

Rick died in 1996. His incredible creativity lives on.

For those that don't know Rick's name, you likely know his work very well. He worked at Westwood Studios and worked on Eye of the Beholder I & 2, Dune 2, Kyrandia and other classics.

Rick died in 1996, 7 years after creating this image.

March 29th, 1995: Netscape Communications Corporation goes public. Netscape Navigator was a dominant web browser in the early days of the internet. Its IPO was a landmark event, fueling the dot-com boom of the late 1990s.

It's 2024 and I just bought an S-VHS along with a standalone rewinder. I'm part of a test group for a preservation project to digitise and archive , and ads and local news etc. before the tapes deteriorate to the point where they're unusable.

If you're in the UK and you have old home recorded , let me know!

some for fellow old web nerds:

if you had a in the early 90s, you probably played the multiplayer tank battle game, Bolo.

and if you played Bolo, you probably visited jolo's Bolo Home Page. it was the bolo resource on the web, and it began its life on the authors' Duke University Med School web space, before it moved to lgm.com where it lived for ten years.

lgm.com was cybersquatted in the late 2000s, and the bolo home page disappeared from the public consciousness.

the site has hundreds of individual pages, and exploring its pages truly feels like an exercise in hyperlinking.

i spent the last few days recovering the site from IA and rebuilt its absolute link structure. please enjoy the Bolo Home Page for the first time in 15 years :)

Good morning, Fediverse!

Greets come with something that was a bit of a droolsome thing for a teen Sharka seeing them advertised and demoed on Bad Influence: The Amstrad Mega PC!

DOS gaming AND Mega Drive gaming? All wrapped up in the beige-iest of boxes and controllers?

Damn cool then and still today!

The PC side clocked in at a 25mhz 386SX, 1MB ram, and 40MB HDD - not the snappiest of specs for 1993, but there was some wiggle room for what it came with. And at a price of £500-600 in the UK, similar to some of Amstrad's other budget PCs, it was a viable option for a best-of-both-worlds and to get in on DOS gaming without forking out a thousand or more.

I've been a huge Foo Fighters fan since early on (I was a big Nirvana fan in the 90s too). I was psyched to get to see Foo in 1996 (edit: originally said 1995) at UMBC (a college!) right after the first album, and then again a couple years later, when they were at a big arena show.

Yesterday I went through and made a fully chronological playlist of ALL my favorite Foo songs-- 49 of them on this list. Even covers and b-sides in here - might be something you haven't heard yet! Dave is a great songwriter. No ballads or anything too light, ALL (mostly) heavier ones here.

32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic.

You can play Wolfenstein 3D FREE in browser here: https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d) and you can also download it free and run it on your own machine via DOSBox. Wolf 3D is also on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2270/Wolfenstein_3D) for a few bucks, and on the Microsoft store (the port of the 360 version). Now if they'd only port it to Switch! 😂

Happy birthday, B.J. Blazkowicz. 🎂

OK, Fediverse. This is a long shot.

I am looking for the missing parts of the SIBO C .

The screenshot (and alt text) shows a breakdown of what I already have, scraped together from the internet and scans from people who still have paper copies.

I'm sure there are newer versions of some of these docs, especially 2-05 and 3-01.

I'm also looking for v1 of the SDK, covering the MC200 and MC400.

Can you help?

This week's is , the first song you remember hearing live. That's an easy one for me - my first show was Foo Fighters at UMBC in 1996, I was 16. They opened with "Enough Space", but the song I vividly remember was "This is a Call" - still an incredible song all these years later. I had the album, loved it, and was floored to hear it live. RIPPER of a set, too - and it's online here: https://youtu.be/uQncL1LfPYQ
