Mornings spent outdoors are always enjoyable, but some mornings are special. For me, this was one of those mornings at Lake Lamar Bruce in Saltillo, MS.
Most of the Delta lacks standards for how much water should flow through it, and that's a big problem.
"The fish are suffering primarily from a lack of adequate freshwater,” says Baykeeper science director Jon Rosenfield. "Flow is sort of the master variable that affects almost everything with fish."
A spectacular morning filled with completely mesmerizing colors as the clouds moved across the sky. This scene is from one of my favorite local places. Lake Lamar Bruce, Saltillo MS
This Brown Pelican almost appears to be standing guard over the Destin Harbor. As a family the Destin Harbor is always a good stop for great food and fun activities.
Even though we needed zero extra reasons to completely ban bottom trawling what with the whole "marine deforestation that causes irreparable harm” thing, this is fairly shocking.
Fisherman at dawn on the coast of Florida. Warm salt air, towering thunder clouds flashing on the horizon. It was so beautiful, it felt so good to be alive.
A lone Great Egret stalks the shallow waters of the Intracoastal Waterway, looking for that last meal of the day. Sunset colors linger in the western sky as nightfall and encroaching clouds steal the last light of the day. Love these moody nights on the Florida Gulf coast.
"Winchester Cathedral
You're bringing me down
You stood and you watched as
My baby left town ..." - Geoff Stephens
Back about the time the New Vuadville Band was singing Winchester Cathedral, I liked to go out to the Imperial Beach pier in California. My mother would drop us off and we would stay out there all day, fishing. We would hook a string of colored flies to our fishing lines with a chrome-colored weight and large treble hook at the end. We would catch mostly queenfish, and some small Jack smelt. Other fish were sharks and barracuda. Sometimes, we'd hook two or three fish at a time just standing there moving our lines up and down.
“Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish.” - Steven Wright
(After the tragic death of Yusra’s older brother, and an unfortunate accident that renders her fisherman father #paralyzed and in a #wheelchair, it is up 15-year-old Yusra to step forward and help provide for her small family. She repairs her father’s #fishing boat and takes it out to sea, becoming Gaza’s first fisher woman at the age of 15. Inspired by a true story, this novel will warm the hearts of its’ readers and shine a light of hope in them.)
The House GOP wants to gut the EPA, cutting the budget by 40%. Are you a #hunter or into #Fishing ? Without the EPA, there would be no fish in most US waterways, and no ducks in our flyways. EPA rules are the reason game meat is mostly safe to eat, and game animals exist. In the 1960s, most of our large rivers (and many of our other waterways) had no fish, and toxic levels of cancer-causing or poisonous industrial chemicals. There is no #hunting or #fishing without a strong EPA.
