While Jitsi is open-source, most people use the platform they provide, meet.jit.si [http://meet.jit.si], for immediate conference calls. They have now introduced a “Know Your Customer” policy and require at least one of the attendees to log in with a Facebook, Github (Microsoft), or Google account. If you prefer not to...
To maximize efficiency and keep up with modern culture, you are now encouraged to communicate exclusively in emojis.
Express the intricacies of your utopian life through smiley faces, thumbs up, and the occasional XD.
Words are sooooo last century.
Remember: Happiness is mandatory. Sad and/or angry emojis are treasonous.
As someone who works in #communication , I'm baffled by some folks here on #mastodon who talk down about users of other #SocialMedia platforms in a patronising or even insulting way, only to immediately add: "I don't understand why they don't come here!"
From a goal-oriented comms point of view, this makes zero sense if your true goal is to drive people here, no matter how well justified your criticism of other platforms might be.
Actress Hedy Lamarr (nee Hedwig) and composer George Antheil received US patent for their "Secret Communications System", an early version of frequency hopping using a piano-roll to switch among 88 frequencies to make radio-guided torpedoes harder for enemies to detect or jam. The U.S. Navy rejected the idea, then seized it as "alien property" in 1942 (Lamarr was Austrian) but filed it away with no record of a working device being produced. via @wikipedia
I know that we have a telegram chat for announcements but I think it would also be a good idea to also have a matrix space where we can also get announcements and maybe even also chat and get support.
One of the reasons I think we should is that not everyone has Telegram and it requires a phone number to sign up to, but a lot of people have Matrix and even if they don't it's easy to sign up to. Another reason is that telegram isn't a great platform due to it being a centralized corporate platform which is now allowing/forcing ads on it, some of which for very sketchy blockchain services, which obviously isn't great and is a pretty big reason people would want to avoid it.
(I posted this from #Mastodon so it could reach further and also so I could mention people).
It seems to me that #clarity and #communication is so important in #mathematics, but this need constantly breaks against the language and terminology specific to and embedded in each subfield…
Some Narrative Conventions of Scientific Discourse
Rom Harré, 1990
"The academic ‘we’ might seem at first glance to be just a version of the editorial ‘we’. Like the latter it is mutedly egocentric but it is not mainly used to imply teamwork. Rather, it is used to draw the listener into complicity, to participate as something more than an audience. "
You know those Google and Facebook buttons to log in into a website, which doesn't belong to those big corps, like small blogs.
What if we would have something like a universal #Fediverse login? Imagine logging in with your Mastodon account to comment on blogs, participate in a chatroom or do other stuff...
I really would like to have a chatroom where everyone can login with their fediverse login.
#Chatrooms are things I really miss on the fediverse or does it exist and I don't even know it's existence?
Is this technically possible with the #activitypub protocol and would it make sense?
Faut-il encore le rappeler: la mise en page typographique d'un document est essentielle pour délivrer un message de manière claire. #fail#communication#pub
This is a request to all FOSS projects who only use matrix for communicating with the community.
Please consider bridging your rooms with IRC or XMPP.
India has banned Element, the most widely used Matrix client. I know it's just a client, but to be safe it's wiser to stay away from matrix for a while. So please help us in this regard.
I am going to be super busy all day, but this response from the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada just came into my inbox. I argued Public Safety Canada (emergency communications) services were violating privacy laws using corporate social media. They say they don't have jurisdiction to make the call. Would be interested in your guys thoughts on a response before I have time to think on mine. #Fediverse#OpenSocialWeb#Mastodon#Emergencies#Communication.
massively guilty of it myself, but I'm lowkey disappointed how many inaccessible screenshots folks use when communicating about bugs and issues in software development. Quite often literally screenshots of text with no alt text being shared in chat. A shame that teams doesn't prompt for alt text by default. #accessibility#a11y#webdev#softwaredevelopment#communication#disability#alttext
We communicate differently on different platforms. We talk differently on the phone than we talk in person, and we write texts differently than we write email messages.
To be a supercommunicator, you need to learn the rules of these different environments.
Jitsi, the open-source video conferencing platform, now requires a Google, Microsoft, or Facebook account for their online service. - Beehaw (beehaw.org)
