Any software developers in my reach currently unemployed? I am, and while I’m working on a few side projects, I miss not having a team to bounce ideas and random dev chit-chat on a daily basis.
Anyone feeling the same or open to have some informal group chat? Or know a small community I could join?
I currently have only about a month left to find a job in the tech field before I'm forced to move back to my hometown with very few opportunities available and limited space/options to continue providing various services. Positions within the US and #Nashville area are heavily preferred.
I'm neurodivergent and have been writing #backend/server software for over 5 years and managing #Linux servers for 4 years on my own, mainly working on various personal projects that have achieved significant scale. I primarily work with #NodeJS, #CPP, and #Java, however I also know quite a bit of #Swift. I tend to be a fast learner, so I could probably figure out a new lang or some new tooling on request.
I'd be willing to provide further info on request. Thanks in advance.
👀 I am currently available to hire, for around 8-12 hours a week; 💻 for regular consulting, development, mentoring, advice, and more. ⌚ EU/UK timezones only, and 🌍 remote only. Get in touch if you'd like to chat more, my DMs are open❤️ #forhire#php#phpc#java#rust#c
Do you remember SUN JDS (Java Desktop System)? It was a beautifully modified version of GNOME 2. Even a Live CD based on Morphix was available.
Sadly, the internet (even archive.org) has forgotten mostly everything about it. If you still have a copy of the JDS Live CD, please contact me, and I am going to build an IceWM theme based on the design.
Out of 6 languages recommended by the NSA, 4 are patended bvy multibillion comanies who can pull the plug on them at any time (and Oracle already tried that).
C# - PATENTED by Microsoft,
Go - PATENTED by Google
Java - PATENTED by Oracle, NOT FREE
Python - not too shabby
Rust - not too shabby

Hi all! I'm Tajh, and I am a VP of Data Science and Engineering at the @wikimediafoundation, the non-profit that administers #Wikipedia and other projects. My teams include MediaWiki Services, Data Platform, Research & Decision Science, Machine Learning, and Developer Experience. I am a pretty experienced but lapsed #Java developer, and mostly dabble in #Python these days when I get time to write code. #introduction
Hello there, I was recently laid off from my 10-year job as a Software Engineer. I'm looking for another Software Engineer position.
At my former position, I worked as a backend developer who managed data and made reports using Perl. I am also familiar with Lisp because I used it as a web scraper turned Perl script. I also familiar with Java since I'm the owner of @morobot
I'm familiar with Python since my blog uses it.
Without going into too much detail, my thesis was criticised for developing a web service with C++. I It was questioned why I didn't use #NodeJS or #Java for the web service. "It's not performance critical" said the professor.
Dude, have you used the internet lately?
EVERYTHING is performance critical!
This sort of teaching explains why most aps/websites run like absolute dogshit.
If you're wondering why #java applications have a bad rep for #GUI#accessibility: the default GUI frameworks (SWT, JavaFX, Swing) are not accessible out of the box. None of the components support the keyboard shortcuts available on the various operating systems. It's like they were designed to be as different from everything else as possible. Thinking different hurts accessibility. Do better.
Experienced "jack of all" developer in #php, #c++, #c#, #java, #js, #dart, etc looking for full-time or long-term project work.
Experience in large websites, webapps (small/med biz), mobile apps, dashboards/dataviz, audio/video processing/streaming, APIs, #as400, automation, etc.
Has worked Fortune 500, much prefer non-profit.
Would love to work on a team, and would be happy to maintain a legacy project.
Behind search for masto is a resource-hungry #java application called #elasticSearch. Sure you might be able to get Masto to run on a #raspberrypi4, but you won't be running elastic search with it.
Having recently moved my instance to a much more powerful system, I now run ES, and WOW what a difference being able to search post makes! Soooo many times I wanted to reference a toot that had scrolled by but had no way of finding it. Now I do!
Even though I've put some serious resource limits on ES, it's bar none the most resource intensive service running (out of around 25).
Please consider sending a few bucks to the #MastodonAdmin of your instance. Better yet, if you can afford it, sign up for a monthly donation. They need it.
