I just opened up registration for the March iteration of the "Hands-On Guile Scheme for Beginners" course!
This is an 8-week course that is a mixture of on-demand learning content, live Q&A sessions, practical exercises, and a private forum where I answer all your questions. We had a great time in the February iteration so I'm looking forward to running it again!
Come learn Scheme and functional programming with us!
I want to take a moment to talk about code #accessibility. Like How accessible your source code is for your fellow #programming
Practically speaking I count as a "Low vision" user. My need for larger fonts means that lines wrap earlier for me than most users. Wrapping sucks, so when i write code I typically use 80 characters as an upper limit to width. There are computing history reasons for 80 but it also just works.
I've been on Masto for several years, but not very active. I recently changed instances, and never did an #introduction post before, so here we go!
I'm a photographer based on Halifax, NS, Canada, though my day job is as a software developer. My main interests are, in no particular order, #photography, home #baking & #cooking, #programming, #security, #equality, and #cats. Many others, but yeah.
My own posts will be mostly photography focused, and with that, here's a photo of my fluffy boy.
Since the 1980s, Usborne has been releasing great books for learning about computers and programming. Vibrant and fun, with big letters for the young and old, the company has put a whole bunch of them online for free as PDFs. They may not be as culturally relevant, but their ability to teach remains neon bright.
I recommending "Write Your Own Adventure Programs" for the curious, it's fun simply to read!
Okay, this is taking "old skool" to a next level! I present to you, The Human Shader project! So far over 1000 people have been busy working out pixel values to create the first "organic" human shader image...
Early #Perl luminary and author (#OReilly camel and llama books, many magazine articles, etc.) Randal Schwartz, a/k/a merlyn, is in dire financial straits.
He needs gainful #employment NOW of any kind, and although his #programming language of choice now is #Dart and the #Flutter framework, he’s willing to fall back on his @Perl chops.
