A concise definition of "wokeness" is "having an awareness of how historical and structural inequities lead to disparate outcomes in a society with equal protection under the law."
Just plug that into every iteration you see and everything that's going on in this country becomes a lot clearer.

Not surprisingly, voters as a whole don't seem to apply the same, um, SOUL-CRUSHING IMPORTANCE to crushing #woke#teachers, #LGBTQ -friendly curriculum, or the hopes and lives of #trans kids in school, as, say, #GOP politicians and pundits do. Support for such #culturewar issues is higher among #Republicans, but even there, the polling doesn't show this focus as a grass roots groundswell.
Now, if that just translated into actual #voting ...

Psst... you can't sleep through this Donald. There is no escape from the reckoning you are due. Accountability. Responsibility. You've been dodging it your entire pampered, coddled manchild life.
Thinking about cruelty. We associate and see cruelty most with immediate, person on person or animal cruelty. Remoteness doesn’t reduce the cruelty of impact, or intent, but it makes it harder to feel and judge.
This really works in favour of those in power, who can use drones, or policy, to kill and injure others, rather than, say, a knife. And it often makes us all - unwitting, uncaring - participants.
I think this is what being #woke - in its real, original sense d being “awake” boils down to for me, especially for those of us who lead privileged, safe lives:
That you might think you are a good person, just leading a normal, peaceful life in, say, Germamy or the UK, but your privilege itself means you are complicit in and benefiting from cruel, extractive systems deeply harming others. It takes real effort but you need to educate yourself and see this, you need to wake up to this.
I love all the diversity and representation in Star Trek! It's fun watching bigots squirm. I'd much rather they reflect on their bigoted opinions, and strive to better themselves. But if they refuse to do that, then watching them squirm is the next best thing. #StarTrek
