It's Midsummer Day and the poppies are out. In this case, it's a massed bank of orange and yellow poppies, with just the one white flower in the middle of the throng.
I always admire the individual who can stand out from the crowd with so little effort.

Have a lovely summer everyone.

“I’m not innocent, I broke the law and deserve to pay for my crime. However, I’m still a human. They even have warnings on the radio to bring in plants and animals due to the heat, but we sit here and fry.”

A little sweet whimsy on a super hot day! It was 99 a few hours ago with a "feels like" of 114. I do wonder how the birds survive this heat when we have to go out every 2 hours with ice and mist to keep our chickens alive.

We live under the flight path of wildlife traveling between native forests in . At midsummer, these creatures are all very busy feeding on, pollinating, propagating (through excreting seeds), and regenerating not only the great native forests, but many private gardens.

Why not give your local native birds and wildlife a gift for by planning now to plant edible native flowers, shrubs and trees wherever you live. Or find a Bush Regeneration group to work with on local public lands.

Before long, Value will become a measurable contribution to the value of both public and privately owned land, including yours. It’s the beautiful gift you give to yourself, your children’s children, our wildlife, and the planet.

Festive Midsummer Resident #2 Native Frangipani (Hymenosporum flavum), a rainforest tree native to New South Wales, Queensland and New Guinea. Their highly fragrant flowers (similar to plumeria) attract native birds, bees and butterflies. A cluster of five-petalled native frangipani blossoms, shades ranging from creamy white to yellow to pale orange, are seen against a green leafy background.
Midsummer Visitors #3 The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is a large white parrot. It has a dark grey-black bill, a distinctive sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. Sexes are similar, although the female can be separated at close range by its red-brown eye (darker brown in the male). This is a noisy and conspicuous cockatoo, both at rest and in flight. They feed on Berries, seeds, nuts, and fruit, and live long lives of between 40 – 100 years. An adult cockatoo with wings outstretched feeds a younger family member as they perch together on the mottled grey trunk of a gum tree.

On our last field trip with Summer, her pal hooked her leash, to her collar, on the wrong ring. Somehow, her name tag and license fell off.
We looked and looked and found the ring and the license but not the name tag.
Engraved on the tag is her name, our address, and my cell number.
This morning, I got a call, and a stranger was at our gate with her tag. It was so kind of them to return it. Summer came out to say thank you herself, and later, I sent a photo of her since I have a few, and said thank you again.
They messaged back that she is beautiful and she made their day.
I love a reminder that there are still some nice people out there.

There was a brief break in the rain, so Summer got her outside time.
She wanted to show off her daffodils.

I have to admit that I was very hesitant to add a dog to our family. Well over a year ago, when my husband saw Summer available on the internet, he was fresh out of the hospital and had been fighting one type of cancer or another. He was weak and tired. I had recently retired to help him.
It seemed like it wasn't a good idea to bring a major project home. Not to mention, I had never owned a dog.
It was also hard to say no to my husband, who had gone through so much. It was just as hard to say no to a puppy nobody wanted.
So I caved, and the rest is history.
I followed my heart and drove hundreds of miles to bring Summer home. It turns out that is the best part of me to follow.
Good morning, Mastodon.

Family of Geese - my husband and I always love watching the goslings grow and the beautiful sunset skies of summer. We don't have those skies this summer however, mostly grey and lots of clouds. But on this August evening, a most delightful sunset sky.

Summer has a new skill.
My husband has a stick that he uses sometimes to reach things he wants to move closer to him.
Now, when he asks Summer to bring him his stick, she fetches it immediately.
She is the best good girl and a huge help to her pal.
Good morning, Mastodon.

Caddo Lake Dawn - Right before sunrise the sky lit up with some wonderful colors against a silhouette of cypress trees in the lake. I also loved the nice reflections in the water of the trees and sky colors in this early morning capture on Caddo Lake.
