🥥 Don't think of #AltText as a chore you have to perform.
Think of it more as an art form, like #Haiku or #Bonsai; a fine #wine or a rare #cheese that YOU can hand craft. 🥥
Hello - just a very quick #Introduction (or reintroduction) as I figure out how to move instances. I gave up the bird last November in one of the migrations and haven't looked back since. I genuinely prefer this calmer, more nuanced, more enjoyable type of social media. I am a Secondary school English teacher in the UK. Keen to connect with #Education people, #Teachers#EduTooter and the like, but I also love #Food#Wine#Cheese#TaylorSwift and #WhiteTailedEagles
XXL transport containers: Two huge #Roman wooden barrels in an outstanding state of preservation, found in Xanten. Both had a capacity of approx. 1250 l and were used to transport #wine from the Mediterranean region to the Lower Rhine. They were recycled for lining wells.
Just published a new #blog post! This one's about building and running #DirectX natively on #Linux through the amazing #DXVK translation layer, and its native version which I'd never heard of. This allows building native Linux binaries without having to go through #WINE, meaning the code is debuggable with the usual tools like gdb that otherwise don't work on WINE.
This is remarkable... Check out the difference between Grenache this year (left) and what it looked like on the same date a year ago (right). This year is going to be late, late, late. Our latest veraison, start to harvest, and end of harvest in our history are all very much in play.
In 2023 #OliveOil bulk prices have doubled (after some years of being relatively stable).
And, of course, behind this is a fall in supply caused by crop failures & #climatechange;
so perhaps the Q. is: like the #wine industry, is the shift in climate patterns (whatever its massive damage elsewhere) going to present an opportunity to English #farmers to move into the cultivation of #olives?
As the South of England gets warmer so the fields they are a changing....
Can the French #wine industry adapt fast enough to #climate change?
“We’re going back to ancient ways.” To deal with erratic frosts, he has begun pruning his vines later in the year, which postpones bud emergence. To cope with drought & high temps, he’s created higher canopies of leaves that provide more shade to the grapes. He works the land with #horses, rather than tractors, to preserve the health of the soil, & 6 years ago he started to plant annual vegetation around the vines to retain winter & spring water into the summer. In the summer, he cuts the annuals back to create “a sponge of #organic matter” that continues to hold water & cool the soil.
More & more French wine-makers are following a similar path. “The more climate-resilient or smart the vineyard is, the better able to adapt to climate change." They’re seeing the importance of regenerative farming that focuses on natural resources & the need to mitigate their impacts." #permaculturehttps://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-02974-y
OC Hey Apple, any chance you wanna maybe... contribute... to WINE?
