I'm testing my reach here. Probably won't work, but do these messages reach anybody currently living in Belgium? I have an odd project that requires "boots on the ground" near Brussels... #belgium#belgique#brussels
Belgian #police just forced a brown person in the seat in front of me off the #ICE#Brussels-#Cologne because he didn't bring his #ID card. I think ID is required for crossing borders within #Schengen but it's incredibly depressing that, as so often, they picked a non-white citizen for controls.
Interestingly, they also checked the white person in the adjacent seat but only for the train ticket, not the ID.
Freedom not Fear is starting today! Join the privacy barcamp in Brussels at Mundo Madou (Avenue des Arts 7–8) from 6 pm no matter whether you have registered or not!
We (the Bielefeld delegation of @digitalcourage) took an early train to make sure we arrive before you do. So far, the train is on time. A big shout-out goes to the Brussels organising team who are making things happen.
This is one of the most unique and fascinating #Linux talks that I've seen. Happening now at @fosdem in the #Distributions DevRoom, Vojtech Polasek and Lukáš Tyrychtr are presenting the state of #accessibility in the Linux desktop, with an overview of the basics, what the landscape is like, live demos of working accessibility and absence of accessibility, and developing on Linux #a11y tools.
In Europe, budget airlines make inter-city travel ridiculously cheap. They also boost pollution and emissions.
European Sleeper, which started its #Brussels- #Amsterdam- #Berlin service last week, is hoping to replace flights by convincing people to switch to night trains.

:win3_computer: “Fediverse for Public Administration. Why we try and why we fail” followed by a fishbowl discussion.
:thinking_rotate: 19h at Mundo Madou (Avenue des Arts 7-8, 1210 Brussels).
I bought a few shares because their success would help me #StayGrounded. (Also, how cool is it to own a #train [lease, fraction of]?)
It's a high risk investment. No profits expected for years with favourable track prices. No membership/voting rights under 26 k€ invested. Check bylaws etc. in "legal" and "community" tabs. https://platform.eyevestor.com/eyeventures/NL_EUS?tab=rules
Most pedestrian streets that I’ve seen just close off the street to vehicles and they’re done. Nothing wrong with that. But Boulevard Anspach in #Brussels has gone a step further and added trees, wildflower gardens, planters and rain gardens. Looks great!
I believe that the Digital Markets Act (#DMA), has the potential to make a significant difference.
Explained a bit what I have experienced over the years with #Microsoft , #Apple and #Google.
Talked about the importance of not leaving holes through not designating products, such as #edge
Talked about the importance of regulating use of data. Data may be the new oil and oil is ruining the planet. We can allow use of data for services, without saying that the data can be used for profiling and marketing as well!
📡 hi lurkers & beyond!

Do you know structures / services / scrapyard that collect electronic / electric waste in the region. Back in NL, I used to go to a scrapyard selling by the kg...

"Russian real GDP is above where it was before the invasion. That is lamentable, but no one in #Brussels gets to lament this. The #EU made a conscious decision to put the profits of a handfull of #Greek shipping oligarchs ahead of the 450 million people it's supposed to represent..."
