"You go talk to kindergartners or first-grade kids, you find a class full of #science enthusiasts. They ask deep questions. They ask, "What is a #dream, why do we have #toes, why is the #moon round, what is the birthday of the #world, why is #grass#green?"These are profound, important #questions. They just #bubble right out of them.You go talk to 12th graders and there's none of that. They've become #incurious.Something terrible has happened between kindergarten and 12th grade." #CarlSagan
A newly released collection of maps show how much land in US cities is used as parking lots.
According to The Parking Reform Network, Wichita KS is 35% parking lot while Las Vegas, NV is 32% and San Bernadino, CA is a brain-melting 49% parking lot.
Imagine the possibilities if people decided to take back most of that land from empty parked cars and use it for housing and green space instead? 🌳 🚶♀️ 🚴 👨👩👦 🌲
U.S. scientists have achieved net energy gain in a fusion reaction for the second time since December, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory said on Sunday.
Last night, a dream came true - I saw and captured the Aurora Borealis (aka Northern Lights) over Rhossili Bay. I've had this location in mind for years if the conditions were right. And last night it happened!
Still exploring and getting to grips with mastodon. Loving silent Sunday. Searching for people to follow, especially humanities and #sociology#academics critical perspectives of business, #ethics and philosophy, #green economy. Any suggestions?
I must admit, this news about #Uranus and #Neptune has me shook:
"A fresh analysis of Voyager 2's images show both ice giants are in fact a similar shade of greenish blue, which is the 'most accurate representation yet' of the planets' colors, the new study finds."
#Politicians have a skewed understanding of the effects of #offshorewind installations because the more positive studies are often behind paywalls & under-appreciated while the 'grey literature' which is more widely available is also often more negative.
This interesting research into the availability of research & how this effects conclusions about policy direction, has much wider implications for #governance than just the #green energy sector.
People look for silence and tranquillity. Some will find them in meditation, others, in walking, sport, yoga or music. Photographing plants is a meditation for me. I am particularly close to absolute silence and detachment from reality when I look into the world of plants through macro lenses. This is the only time when I don’t hear my thoughts.
This is one of my favorite shots from a recent photo shoot. In the center at the end is the Starorobocinski Wierch, the highest peak in the Western Tatras in Poland.

So, I think we can all agree that the #IMF are not #green radicals... but its head Kristalina Georgieva has gone on record saying that climate-damaging carbon emissions needed to fall between 25% & 50% by 2030 but pledges so far would only lead to a "meagre" 11% cut;
She goes on: 'So that is to my mind the number one priority for this COP, is to recognise that business as usual has to be dropped'!
#Butterflies get all the love, but do not tell me that moths are not their equal if not their better … including these common #autumn wonders that visited last night
Merveille du jour (the mint choc chip #icecream of the moth world)
“A recent study found that training a large neural network with 175 billion parameters consumed 1287 MWh of electricity. It resulted in carbon emissions of 502 metric tons, equivalent to driving 112 gasoline-powered cars for a year”
"Is Earth Day greenwashed and obsolete?" a Salon writer asks. Has its core message been diluted as corporations use the annual event for marketing purposes?
