This is such a cool idea.

It's estimated that 100,000 new songs are uploaded to #Spotify every day.

Inevitably, that means loads of really great music never gets heard.

Thanks to Venus Theory, I've just heard about #Forgotify, which points you to songs on Spotify that have no listens, or at least no complete play throughs.

And I've already found some real gems!

Please boost this: Today is another where artists get 93%[!] of the money people spend on their music. This is something like 1000x better than they get if you just steam their music—they make about a tenth of a penny per song streamed. Support your bands people!

Instead of having a - how about making some music? I fool around on the piano and I've been in a number of all-percussion bands. Do you have an instrument of choice?

There were dozens of Black classical composers in 19th-century New Orleans, but they had few opportunities to present their compositions around the world, and that means their works have been largely forgotten — until recently. Atlas Obscura reports how OperaCréole, founded in 2011 by Black mezzo-sopranos Givonna Joseph and her daughter Aria Mason, is giving life to lost works as "an act of restorative justice."

Tracy Chapman first Black woman to write top US country song

A version of Chapman’s song Fast Car – which she solely wrote – has reached number one on US country chart, making history.

More than 35 years later, the song has offered another breakthrough, making Chapman the first Black woman to have a sole writing credit on a number-one country song – a genre that has only recently seen a limited increase in diversity in its mainstream.

Rainfall v1.0 is released!

https://rainfall.dev/

Rainfall is a Bandcamp exodus tool that lets you upload your music and create a static site using the lovely Faircamp (https://simonrepp.com/faircamp/). You can download this site as a ZIP and host it anywhere on the web.

Future features include editing of ID3 metadata (which Faircamp uses to generate song titles and release/artist names) and one-click deployments to Netlify.

You can read some of the rationale behind why I built this here: https://travisbriggs.com/garden/bandcamp/

The github repo is here: https://github.com/audiodude/rainfall

If you end up using it, let me know here on Mastodon!

40 years after Marvin Gaye’s death, never-before-heard music has been found in Belgium. How did the tape, which looks like a basic BASF cassette that was common in the 1980s, end up there? And will fans of the singer who's popularity remains strong get to hear what’s on it? BBC News heard a brief, tantalizing sample from the tape. “In a rather eerie moment, the Prince of Motown almost seemed to live again.” https://flip.it/cAcvye

John Williams is among 19 new members of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The 92-year-old composer has won five of the 53 Oscars he was nominated for, and also conducted the Boston Pops for more than a decade and has composed classical concertos. Here's a story from ABC on Williams and the other 18 inductees to the Academy of Arts this year, which included composer Terence Blanchard, novelist Alice McDermott and artist Matthew Barney. We want to know, which is your favorite of these (some answers are movies and others are franchises where more appropriate).
