Quick introduction now that I've moved to Mastodon Music.
Swiss-based musician - bass, guitar, key, vocals of varying competencies. Played in Sydney in the 80s, Brisbane in the 90s, Myspace in the 00s + a rogue folk-acoustic set somewhere in there, nothing at all in the 10s!, and now active again. Several solo, collaborative and band activities locally and in Australia.
Also trying to recover all my old friends after the unexpected move, so boosts appreciated.
Instead of having a #SilentSunday - how about making some music? I fool around on the piano and I've been in a number of all-percussion bands. Do you have an instrument of choice?
Hey there, I’m Jake from #Portland, Oregon. I’m a computer engineer who does #FPGA stuff at places that design processors.
I’m more of a lurker than a poster but I’ll try to remain interesting. I’m into photography, #guitar, #running (especially on trails), #retrocomputing, and any kind of fun hardware hacking on computers. Love my wife, kids, and dog!
The dog is more photogenic than me so I’ll leave you with a picture of her.
Happy holidays! No matter if you participate in the tradition of gift giving at this time of year or not, I've released Fretboard 5.0 as a present for everybody who happens to use it 🎁️
In the spotlight of this update there is automatic chord name formatting and an enharmonic indicator that shows when a chord has more than one possible name.
My excellent buddy @unrefinedjagoff has been making cool, "doomy, spaghetti western in space" music on guitar as The Astronaut King for over a decade and a half now, and hasn't had especially much attention on it. His sound ranges from distorted and doomy, to acoustic and emotive.
So I'd like to share this song with y'all -- perhaps it's your thing too!
Problem. When I joined the Almendros, I joined to play trumpet. I've been a #guitar player for a while, but here, like everywhere, has 1,000,000 guitar players, many substantially better than me, but very few #trumpet players. So, I figured, I could carve a little niche as a brass player. Setting up for practice and gigs was super easy. Showed up with my trumpet case, played, packed up - done!
However, our main lead guitarist has been phasing out, so after I joined, it was, "Kemi, can you learn this guitar part? Kemi, can you play a guitar solo here?" Didn't really like the tone of the guitar I was using, so I went out and bought one (Les Paul copy in the photo).
Then I wanted a new amp. Then I wanted new pickups. Then I thought, "I should get a better mic for my trumpet." Then I got another trumpet mute. Now I want ANOTHER new amp. And another guitar, why not. And a sax.
So now I got G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) real, REAL bad. Why was I never warned? I blame you all
Alright, Fediverse, let's talk Tubescreamers. I got asked a question regarding the famous FS "hump" which got sent down a rabbit hole of measurements and guess what, YOU get to benefit from my hyperfixation. "tbg," you ask, "how do you have time for this with your job, and kid, and touring?" I FUCKING DON'T, SHUT UP AND READ THE THREAD AND DON'T TELL MY BOSS
(Also, apologies, no alt text, but I describe each pic in the post)
Left-handed guitarists, rejoice! The next version of Fretboard brings support for switching between right-handed and left-handed chord diagrams. Thanks to Terrestrian on GitHub for suggesting this!
When I'm not writing, playing or recording music, I like to pretend I'm a luthier. This was a recent kit build (not really a luthier) of a Thoman Jazzmaster guitar. Plays and sounds better than I ever expected.
Well I’m slowly coming to the realization that my days of playing the #guitar are quite possibly coming to an end. The arthritis in my left index finger is so painful now I can barely function at all, and of course it’s the primary chording finger. I’m considering taking my cheaper Squire Strat and reversing the strings to attempt retraining myself to play left handed. It would mean reversing the nut and redoing the intonation. Any thoughts or tips #gearsquad ?
