I used to live in a little cabin with a view of the ocean so I often got to see sailboats sailing around the bay. You could never get tired of that view!
When you can't outrun the storm, you have to deal with being in the middle of it. And the more practice you have with difficult situations, the better off you'll be.
Every Saturday a small group would go sailing in the bay where I used to live (on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.) I captured this image on one of those days...
How cool is this?! ⛵📦💚

I'm a geographer working as a research data manager & web dev for the archaeology. I'm a longtime @qgis user, which I teach. I started learning & using #python and #django 2 years ago.
Beside geospatial and web, I've worked before as a performer & artist. I'm also into #sailing, and I've been #livingaboard during a couple of years. I'm fluent in French, English & Spanish.
Last but not least, I'm the admin of mapstodon.space - quite happy to see y'all around here!
Many yachts have completed #RoundTheIslandRace , others will be out on the water for a while longer yet.
My husband has now got hundreds of shots to go through. It was tricky today as waiting for the light to hit #theNeedles and some yachts to be in a pleasing position took a great deal of time. Far easier when you can plan a shot, rather than having to go with whatever the weather and the occasion throws at you! #LandscapePhotography#Sailing#IsleofWight
It was a perfect ending to a beautiful day in Door County, Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. Close to sunset, a huge dark cloud bank was on the horizon, making the sky look dark blue. The sun was just above the cloud bank and turned everything gold.
I’m Shauny, from the UK but we travel a lot, I’m gay, married, and in my 30s 🏳️🌈
I love technology! Used to run a small web development company but retired super early. Now I just do a little bit for charity plus hobby work (building a #DoctorWho website).
I like to try and keep fit by running and attempting to lift weights, I can sail a boat but can’t drive a car, I love TV & movies (mostly Sci-Fi, fantasy and horror). I also love LEGO and board games.
I’m gay, pro trans, pro choice, left wing, feminist, anti-capitalist & vegan. Do I just like being difficult? 😂
It feels good to get out and away, distancing ourselves from not only the noise of the "news," but the false reality of the digital world. Out in the real world, we feel the breeze on our face, the sunlight on our shoulders, and we hear the sound of our friend as we talk and laugh and solve the problems of the world.
Looking for anyone who's been a passenger on a tall ship (any sailing ship with at least two square-rigged masts) to answer a basic question about the experience for #writing and #worldbuilding purposes.
On the bay, they were far enough away from the city to escape the noise and bustle, but close enough to watch its endless activity. It was a good perspective, one that allowed them to observe without being distracted.
Of course there were things to do; there always were, and some of them could even be listed in the "important" column.
But at the moment, nothing seemed more important than standing in the yard, overlooking the bay filled with sailboats, and just letting one's mind glide from one thought to another, as if it too were sailing on the bay.
