People are getting paid for -written , in an 's name, when in fact the author did not, and knew nothing about this happening.

Then, when the author tries to do something about it to stop this obvious , they are told no.

Hi, I'm an as-of-yet unpublished YA author and high school math teacher who just joined Mastodon. I'm looking out for suggestions of who to follow in the writing/teaching community!

I just sent a letter demanding AI companies remove my works from their training data. Use the Authors Guild's letter template to send your own. But please do augment it with your own details (I added my publication info. And called them parasites)

Never thought I’d need to say this, but:
When designing book covers, be aware that a lot of teens and young adults can no longer read cursive. It’s no longer taught in a lot of US schools. I just showed a cool cover to some college students and was shocked that they couldn’t read the title.

In 1963, in a bid to settle a conflict with his English teacher, a 16yo student from San Diego sent a 4-question survey to 150 well-known authors or commercial, literary and science fiction.

"Did they consciously plant symbols in their work?" he asked.

Here are many of their wonderful answers, very much worth the read

Someone is either selling pirated copies of my book, or they're trying to scam people using my name and book. They even uploaded it under the name "River Hopkins" instead of "River J. Hopkins."

Can y'all please report the seller? This is the link. They're selling it for $14.99, and there's absolutely no way they have new copies for that price.

I joined mastodon this past November. Things have gone well! My feed is very busy. Filled with interesting things. A bit ago I released the first book of this new mastodon era. A 3rd edition of my Southern Gothic Flash Memoir omnibus. Would mastodon work for book promo? Of course! I've had sales and more importantly heaps of interaction. Mastodon folks have stopped by local events. There are other social media platforms. But if you want to share and discuss your work? This is the place to be.

My book Philosophy of Cybersecurity tackles a broad domain from systems cybersecurity, user's aspects, healthcare, critical infrastructure security, to policy and politics matters, international law, and cyberwarfare.

Carefully written, with examples, scenarios.

It was a lot of careful work, requiring knowledge and experience. I put all that in the book. Enjoy, happy readings! https://blog.lukaszolejnik.com/my-cybersecurity-book-philosophy-of-cybersecurity/

Today in Labor History August 28, 1921: The Soviet Red Army dissolved the stateless Anarchist Free Territory, after driving the Black Army out of Ukraine. The anarchist rebel leader, Nester Makhno, barely escaped, and with serious injuries.

The Free Territory within Ukraine, also known as Makhnovia (after Nestor Makhno), lasted from 1918 to 1921. It was a stateless, anarchist society that was defended by Makhno’s Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army (AKA the Black Army). Roughly 7 million people lived in the area. The peasants who lived there refused to pay rent to the landowners and seized the estates and livestock of the church, state and private landowners, setting up local committees to manage them and share them among the various villages and communes of the Free State.

Michael Moorcock’s “A Nomad of the Time Streams” is a steampunk/alternative history novel where Makhno survives into the 1940s.

Eugen Rochko recently posted a thought:
"I think it comes down to, AI has no place in the arts. Machine-generated art has the appearance of what it is emulating, but no substance. Like cake made entirely of fondant. Or cardboard."

'Aiono' replied: "Also even if it could, like why would you automate one of the most entertaining part of being a human?"

Replace 'art' with 'writing'.

Right!

Happy writing,

🏝️ So exactly how many episodes of Desert Island Discs are there for you to listen to on BBC Sounds?

THERE ARE 2,455.

(sorry to shout, that was uncalled-for).

We estimate it would take you 51 days to listen to that lot, back to back, if you started now.
